Brands often boast about how much time and effort their R&D departments put into new products – but Callaway admit little of their $40 million annual R&D budget was spent on Odyssey’s new Triple Track putters!

Odyssey general manager Sean Toulon told us that as soon as he and his team saw Callaway’s new Triple Track ERC Soft golf ball last year, they simply had to use the stripey alignment idea on a new range of putters.

He said: “I didn’t have a red Sharpie in my office at the time, but I did have a blue one, so I drew two blue lines on a 2-Ball putter. Then I ran to Luke Williams’ office (his right-hand man at Odyssey) and he drew the red line down the centre; right there we knew we had our new Triple Track putters. It really was that simple.”

And sometimes it’s those simple ideas that create the biggest buzz, just like Odyssey’s original 2-Ball 20 years ago.

Odyssey Triple Track Putters: First Hit Verdict

So often simple ideas are the best. And once the Triple Track ball appeared it was only a matter of time before the tech made its way on to a putter. It makes perfect sense. Odyssey say the heads with the longest sight lines have been most popular with pros stocking their shops for 2020, which probably says getting the longest run of lines between ball and putter will be of most help.

Don’t be tempted to have a go at drawing some lines on your current 2-Ball, either; Odyssey say the colour and spacing are critical to it working, and the lines must match those on a Triple Track ball perfectly.

We first saw “Vernier Hyper Acuity” on Callaway’s ERC Soft golf ball in 2019. The combination of colours and spacing is critical in helping the brain process and visualise alignment more accurately and more consistently. It’s the same visual clues pilots use to land on aircraft carriers.

It might be 20 years since Odyssey first introduced the 2-Ball, but the model is still going strong. Like Triple Track, it was such a simple idea that just works. The double bend shaft model is face balanced, so it suits straighter putting strokes perfectly.

Odyssey Triple Track 2-Ball Blade putter

Perfect for golfers who aren’t huge fans of the curvy edges of the 2-Ball head. Straighter edges can help alignment, too. Ask Padraig Harrington, who is a big fan; 21° of toe hang means it’s more suited to slightly arcing strokes than a face balanced standard 2-Ball.

Verdict: Odyssey Triple Track Ten putter

Without a doubt, Odyssey have hit a massive home run transferring Triple Track sightlines from their golf balls to putters, and in our opinion the Ten is the pick of the seven-model family. Why? Having the “Vernier Hyper Acuity” lines running from the back of the head right up to the ball gives maximum indication of where you’re aiming and that’s the whole point of Triple Track.

And if we’re talking about getting the full benefit of the sightlines, you’ll need a Triple Track ball (either Chrome Soft or ERC) in front of the putter, too. For some it will take a bit of practice aligning the head to the ball so the lines run through the pair, but trust us the effort is well worthwhile – our test pro didn’t miss one 15-footer while we gathered our data!

Triple Track is a really simple idea that benefits average club golfers, just like Odyssey’s original 2-Ball. We’d love to know how many Odyssey sell this year (a lot!).
