Cobra Golf’s King RADSPEED family aims to maximise every golfer’s performance in 2021 thanks to “breakthrough” weighting technology that provides unprecedented distance and forgiveness.

Cobra Golf have unveiled their “most advanced product line to date” with the new King RADSPEED drivers, fairway woods, hybrids and irons for 2021.

With a name inspired by the range’s key, innovative technology, Radial Weighting, the RADSPEED line aims to give the highest-possible performance to the full spectrum of golfers through optimised weighting and an array of advanced technologies.

The design concept originated from a popular formula in engineering called Radius of Gyration, which is the distance from the club’s centre of gravity to each weight or technology location. Cobra’s engineers discovered that by increasing the Radius of Gyration and the distance between the front and back weights, they could create the perfect blend of fast ball speed, low spin, and forgiveness.

In addition, Cobra’s engineers, in partnership with Hewlett Packard, have used 3D printing to save weight and improve feel in the new RADSPEED irons. And fans of the brand’s One Length irons can expect far more of a difference than just the length in this year’s model, as you’ll read below.

The RADSPEED metalwoods and irons all come with Cobra Connect Powered by Arccos, as standard, the award-winning shot-tracking system that has proven to save golfers an average of four shots.

It helps players make smarter, data-driven decisions thanks to the electronically enabled sensors which are embedded into the grip and automatically record the distance and accuracy of every shot.

Let’s take a closer look at all of the models in Cobra’s new RADSPEED range for 2021.

Cobra King RADSPEED drivers

The King RADSPEED family sees Cobra join the likes of Ping, Callaway and TaylorMade with three driver models in the line-up – RADSPEED, RADSPEED XB and RADSPEED XD.

According to Cobra, we all fall into one of three categories when it comes to drivers – golfers who want distance, golfers who want forgiveness, and those who need help correcting a slice.

That breakdown helped Cobra create the three models for 2021, which they claim are better tailored to real golfers than ever. RAD Speed targets pure distance, RAD Speed XB attacks forgiveness and RAD Speed XD is tooled up to eliminate a slice.

“Our new RADSPEED drivers represent a true breakthrough in performance,” said Tom Olsavsky, Vice President of R&D, COBRA Golf. “Our engineers have outdone themselves by pushing the Radius of Gyration to new levels and delivering three distinct drivers aimed at three different types of golfers.

“With the RADSPEED driver family, COBRA can truly offer optimized performance for everyone from Tour players to weekend warriors and those who need help correcting a slice.”

Each model benefits from a new radial mass positioning idea which locates discretionary weight at extremities of the head to optimise each model for individual players.

The RADSPEED (9º, 10.5º) has a compact, traditional 460cc head. Cobra say it delivers the fastest ball speeds, lowest spin rates and most workability of all three models. There’s 32g of front radial weight (low in the sole, close behind the face), and a further 14g at the back to ensure vertical impact stability and a degree of playability, which hasn’t always been the case with low-spin models.

The RADSPEED XB (9º, 10.5º, 12º) combines a wide head and rear-biased weighting, giving a slight draw bias over the RADSPEED, with the weight set-up giving extra dynamic lofting at impact, which equates to a higher launch, a little extra backspin and, of course, more forgiveness. Cobra are so convinced of the XB’s efficiency, they say it will be the most forgiving driver on the market in 2021.

The RADSPEED XD (10.5º, 12º) has weight split between three areas to maximise stability, but also offer the 80% of golfers who slice the ball the most amount of slice-busting tech out there. The 10g of weight located in the heel reduces distance-robbing sidespin. There’s also 18g at the back and 8g up front.

All three models have saved weight thanks to a thinner carbon-fibre crown and the titanium T-Bar chassis. They all have a CNC milled ‘infinity face’, which is said to give consistent performance on every driver made.

Every driver comes with Cobra’s MyFly adjustable hosel system, allowing players to increase or decrease loft by up to 1.5° and use three draw settings.

2021 also sees a brand-new shaft line-up to ensure every golfer gets their perfect set-up (see in depth review for full details), while Cobra will also offer a shorter 44.5in shaft length, as used by many tour players, alongside the 45.5in option.

All of the drivers come with Lamkin Crossline grips.

The RADSPEED fairways come in three different families – RADSPEED, RADSPEED Big Tour and Tour, and RADSPEED Draw.

The Radial Weighting System found in the drivers makes its way into all of the fairways with a thinner carbon crown allowing engineers to free up more weight and reposition it for either increased ball speed or more forgiveness.

The CNC Milled Infinity Face also makes it into Cobra’s fairways for the first time, while each model includes Cobra’s signature Baffler Hollow Split Rails, which they say increases flex on the leading edge by 70% to increase speed and still provide excellent turf interaction.

But what is the difference between the King RADSPEED models?

The traditionally-shaped RADSPEED fairway wood (3W-14.5°, 5W-18.5°, 7W-22.5°) has 16g of weight stacked at the front and 7g at the back to generate a low spinning, high-launching ball flight with plenty of forgiveness. There are two premium aftermarket shafts to choose from.

The RADSPEED Big Tour fairway has a slightly larger profile and a stronger loft setting (3W-13.5º), which Cobra say make it the fastest and lowest spinning in the line-up. The RADSPEED Tour fairway (3W 14º, 5W-17.5º) is more compact to aid workability. Both come in matte black with turbo yellow and a Fujikura Motore X F1 shaft.

The RADSPEED Draw fairway has a shallowed face and is designed to create a right-to-left and medium-to-high ball flight, with forgiveness and maximum slice correction power. The CNC Milled Infinity Face increases the area of maximum ball speed while the Baffler Rails help retain club speed through impact. It comes with a Project X Even Flow Riptide shaft.

All of the fairways come with Lamkin Crossline grips.

Cobra King RADSPEED hybrids

The RADSPEED hybrids are available in standard (gloss black/turbo yellow) or One Length (black/red/blue/white), with both utilising Cobra’s Radial Weighting Technology.

Cobra say the forged, high-strength steel face insert and Hollow Split Rails combine to create a lower centre of gravity location, higher launch angles, more distance, and enhanced versatility from a variety of lies, from tight fairways to thick rough and even bunkers.

RADSPEED One Length is designed in a shorter set up (37.50”) to compliment the One Length irons in a combo set.

The standard RADSPEED hybrid is available in 2H-17 ^o, 3H-19 ^º, 4H-21 ^o and 5H-24 ^o, with the ONE Length version available in 3H, 4H and 5H. Both come with UST Recoil 480 ESX premium shafts and Lamkin Crossline grips.

It’s little surprise that Cobra’s radial weighting story also finds its way into the new RADSPEED and RADSPEED One Length irons to provide improved speed, feel and consistency.

What is surprising is how they’ve managed to create such a great looking mid-handicap iron while improving forgiveness.

Cobra’s boffins have created a new toe screw weight that comes up trumps in terms of more than just forgiveness. By using lightweight aluminium, mid-weight steel or heavy tungsten toe screws they can now more accurately fit the irons for different shaft lengths, weights and swing weights.

Despite its predecessor (King Speedzone) looking so good, the RADSPEED iron has had some shaping tweaks and refinements to provide an even sleaker and cleaner head that almost looks like a players’ model. Meanwhile, the thin, flexible, fast and forged PWRSHELL 17-4 steel face has been designed to take on extra flex.

Then there’s the 3D-printing. As you may have read when Cobra unveiled the King Supersport-35 putter, the brand has joined forces with printing experts Hewlett-Packard. The RADSPEED irons feature a new 3D printed nylon polymer cavity badge that saves weight and fine-tunes feel over conventional materials. We expect more 3D-printed products from Cobra as 2021 unfolds.

The standard RADSPEED irons, with their black and turbo yellow colourscheme, feature progressive head shapes (two-piece metalwood style construction on 4-7 and one-piece construction on 8-SW), groove shapes (V groove for reduced spin in the long irons and U groove for added spin in the short irons), and hosel lengths (shorter in the long irons and taller in the wedges) to optimise distance, launch characteristics, and accuracy for each iron in the set.

The RADSPEED One Length irons have a notably different set-up to the regular length set, as well as a different colourscheme (black/red/blue/white). The centre of gravity, hosel offset and weighting configurations are all slightly different and have been optimised for playing irons all the same length as a 7-iron.

The RADSPEED irons come from 4-SW in the standard set and 5-GW in One Length, with stock KBS Tour (Steel) and UST Recoil (graphite) shafts and Lamkin Crossline grips.

Cobra King RADSPEED women’s range

Cobra’s King RADSPEED family includes a range of women’s models in a sleek gloss black and elderberry colourscheme.

There are two drivers on offer. The RADSPEED XB comes in 10.5º and 12º, with the XD in 12º. Both drivers feature all of the same tech found in the black/turbo yellow models (go to in-depth review) and come with a Project X Even Flow Riptide shaft. Both models include the MyFly adjustable hosel allowing loft to be increased or decreased by up to 1.5° and use three draw settings. The drivers will cost £369.

The RADSPEED and RADSPEED draw fairway woods (go to in-depth review) are available in 3W-14.5°, 5W-18.5° and 7W-22.5°, again featuring the MyFly adjustable hosel, with a Project X Even Flow Rip Tide CB shaft. The RADSPEED women’s hybrid (go to in-depth review) is available in 4H-21º, 5H-24º, 6H-27º and 7H-30º with a UST Recoil ESX 450 shaft. The fairways will cost £229 each, with the hybrids at £189 each.

The RADSPEED women’s irons (go to in-depth review) are only available in variable length and come in 6-SW as standard wih a UST recoil shaft, priced at £729.

All RADSPEED women’s clubs come with Lamkin Crossline Cobra Connect grips and will be on sale from January 29.
