Influenced by tour stars Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm, the better-player P-Series irons look to further grow the success TaylorMade have enjoyed since launching the hollow-body P790 in 2017.

That iron single-handedly turned TaylorMade from a predominantly woods business into a big-hitter in the golf irons category, creating a whole new players’ distance iron sector and becoming the brand’s best-selling forged iron.
Tiger Woods, DJ, McIlroy and Rahm have all enjoyed huge success with P-Series irons, helping the brand establish themselves as a major force in the forged players iron market.

Now TaylorMade want to further enhance their reputation and their players’ success with the launch of the P7MB, P7MC and P770.
With each model priced at £1,299 to allow players to form a seven-club combo set, let’s take a look at what the new P-Series has to offer.

TaylorMade P7MB irons
Pictures of the TaylorMade P7MB irons have been doing the rounds on social media since June.
LET star Charley Hull used them in her Rose Ladies Series victory at Brockenhurst Manor Golf Club before Rory McIlroy introduced the muscleback irons to the PGA Tour at The Memorial Tournament.
Each face and groove is CNC milled for precision, which means they’re for the best ball-strikers who want to shape and flight shots at will.
The P7MBs have narrow soles, minimal hosel offset and a wafer-thin topline. TaylorMade have also spent time focusing on the back of the head, so the geometry now catches the light in a player’s bag.

Dustin Johnson heavily influenced the new model, as he likes to see a little longer blade length, which is why the irons are 1.4mm longer than the P730 and a constant blade length through the set.
Rory Mcilroy suggested the fraction more offset found in the long irons.

TaylorMade P7MC irons
Influenced by Jon Rahm, the P7MC is a tour-level, forged cavity players iron aimed at quality ball strikers who don’t want fast face technology.
MC stands for “muscle cavity” and, coupled with Rahm’s influence, gives a good indication who TaylorMade see these irons appealing to.

The head shape is based on the P750 but with a new back bar shape that puts added mass behind the point of impact. It took Rory McIlroy just four swings to conclude the new irons felt was more solid than the P750s.
The P7MC has a narrow sole width, minimal offset and narrow top edge that is just a fraction wider than MB, making for a super clean, less-is-more looking players iron.

TaylorMade P770 irons
TaylorMade are aiming the hollow-body P770 irons at those playing off seven and below, targeting golfers who want fast face technology in a smaller, more compact package.

Thanks to weaker lofts than the P790, TaylorMade say the new model launches higher and spins more, yet gives virtually the same carry.
The new body is cast from 8620 carbon steel, like lots of wedges, but a fast, forged 4140 steel face, speed pocket and internal speed foam guarantee great ball speed, sound and feel.
It has minimal offset and a thin top line, but thanks to 46g of tungsten the centre of gravity is lower and you get improved stability.
