Odyssey reveal two new high-MOI Stroke Lab mallet putters

Odyssey are extending their Stroke Lab offering with two new super high MOI mallet putter models built for consistency: The Stroke Lab Black Ten and Stroke Lab Black Bird of Prey

Odyssey’s brand new Stroke Lab Black Ten and Odyssey Stroke Lab Black Bird of Prey are both engineered with a super high MOI construction, a new Microhing Star Insert and Stroke Lab’s innovative weight distribution, aimed to improve performance dynamics for a more consistent putting stroke.

The ethos behind the Stroke Lab putters are to help golfers become more consistent on the greens by creating a ‘stroke enhancing design’, and Odyssey say their models will give you  20-25% more consistency in the tempo of your stroke, the head speed and face angle at impact.

They have achieved this through a big change in weight distribution: The Stroke Lab shaft is a full 40 grams lighter, and Odyssey has redistributed that saved weight by adding 10g to the head in the form of two sole weights, and adding 30g to the grip-end via a 10g-lighter grip and 40g end-weight.

In addition to the lighter shaft, the Odyssey Stroke Lab Black Ten and Stroke Lab Black Bird of Prey putters feature a multi-material head construction promotes exceptionally high MOI for more stability.

There is also a new Microhinge Star Insert that aims to create a firmer feel and pleasing sound at impact while providing the same roll characteristics of Odyssey’s White Hot Microhinge, while the hi-def alignment is there to make it easier to find the right setup at address.

Odyssey say the new Black Ten was inspired by their #7 and Indianapolis shapes, while the Black Bird of Prey features a striking head shape to help easily frame the ball at address.

If you’ve just done a double-take at seeing Odyssey’s logo on a somewhat familiar-looking putter, we don’t blame you – there’s more than a little resemblance to one of the best-selling putters of recent years, TaylorMade’s Spider. The looks are hardly surprising, since the man now in charge at Odyssey – Sean Toulon – used to work for TaylorMade, but the key difference is the use of the muti-material Stroke Lab shaft.
