Tiger tests mallet putter
Last updated:
Tiger Woods has played a Scotty Cameron blade putter for his entire professional career, but after an indifferent year on the greens he’s gone for something very different at this week’s Quicken Loans Invitational.
Woods has been trying a TaylorMade TP Ardmore 3 mallet putter in practice, black rather than the red version we can buy.
“I’m trying something out,” Woods said. “The way I’ve been putting, I wanted to look for a change. That’s all it is. It rolls good. You never know.”
Woods started working with the Ardmore 3 last week in the Bahamas.
“It has a little more swing than my (Cameron) putter does. It feels good. I wanted something with more swing than mine. You saw my practice putter at the U.S. Open. I feel like the toe is moving and swinging. It has a fraction more swing than mine does.”
He hasn’t said whether he’ll put it in play for the tournament, but once source said there is a “better than good” chance that Woods makes the switch.

The TP Red Collection is comprised of five new variations of the Ardmore putter as well as the Chaska model. Each of the six new models feature milled 304 stainless steel heads with Tour Red finish for a premium look and feel with high-contrast colouring and a variety of sightline options to promote improved alignment.
After testing the Ardmore we said: “A really good choice if you’re in the market for a red putter, but don’t want a wacky shaped MOI model. The aluminium insert gives decent feedback and roll, and because it’s slightly firmer than some we reckon it would at home year-round on UK greens.”
