TaylorMade launch new M3 and M4 range

TaylorMade M3 and M4 Range: TaylorMade Golf have unveiled their all new M3 & M4 metalwoods and irons, featuring the company’s two breakthrough innovations: Twist Face and RIBCOR technology

TaylorMade have today launched their new for 2018 TaylorMade M3 and M4 Drivers, Irons, Fairway Woods and Hybrids.

The new TaylorMade M3 and M4 driver’s both feature Twist Face, a brand new face technology that moves away from the traditional bulge and roll driver-face design concept. Simply put, Twist Face is aimed to more effectively correct human swing tendancies and reduce misshits from shots hit either on the low heel or high toe.

Brian Bazzel, Vice President, Product Creation, said: “From the creation of the first metalwood in 1979, TaylorMade has established a legacy of breaking from tradition to reach new thresholds of performance. In 2018, we have once again uncovered a new frontier of driving potential with Twist Face Technology — a radical departure from traditional driver-face design, engineered to correct for inherent human swing tendencies in real-time, giving golfers a tangible competitive advantage.”

The new TaylorMade irons feature a brand new technology of their own -RIBCOR – a new internal ribbing structure developed for the M3 and M4 irons to stiffen the iron body while directing maximum energy to the ball during impact. Additionally, a multi-material dampening badge works in tandem with the RIBCOR technology to efficiently dampen undesirable vibrations during impact, producing major improvements in sound and feel.

Tomo Bystedt, Senior Director of Product Creation – Irons, said: “Outside the face slots we have these two really firm ribs that are really thin still so that we don’t have a lot of weight in there, but they are really stiff in the structure so the club. What’s essentially happening here is we’re isolating the outside parts of the heel and the toe sections that gets more rigid in terms of the rotational forces that you’re going to see on any kind of miss-hits you see on the club.”

“The centre of the face retains that flexibility and we still design that right up to the COR limit with a lot of speed but we’re getting a stiff region in the heel/toe that we didn’t have before.”

TaylorMade’s radical Twist Face will certainly grab all the headlines on the new 2018 TaylorMade M3 and M4 drivers, but they both feature a whole host of new tech to improve things over the out-going M1 and M2. A “Hammerhead” face slot, a Y-shaped weight track on the M3 and better aerodynamics are new, along with different graphics including a silver (not white) top edge on the crown. Aside from the face, this is what’s been improved.

TaylorMade M3 Driver

The new TaylorMade M3 driver is their most adjustable driver yet, and guaranteed to grab all the headlines surrounding this product in 2018 is their brand-new face technology: Twist Face. By twisting the face and updating the bulge and roll concept, TaylorMade are aiming to minimise off-centre hits and allow you to hit to straighter, longer shots thanks to a larger sweet spot.

Yet Twist Face isn’t the only new technology packed in to the M3. A new Y-Track adjustability system allows all 22g (two 11g weights) of mass to be used for both the benefit of shot bias control, as well as a more precise front to back CG adjustment and an 83% increase in MOI over M1 with both weights at the back of the head. It has more than 1,000 unique set-up positions — more than double the number in the 2017 TaylorMade M1 driver.

There is a new “Hammerhead” face slot to protect ball speed and drop unwanted spin, engineered to work in combination with Twist Face and Inverted Cone technology to deliver maximum ball speed across a larger area of the face. By dividing the Speed Pocket into zones, TaylorMade have been able to increase its overall length by 22% – from 82mm to 100mm. There are also better aerodynamics with a 5-layer carbon crown, along with a new silver top edge on the crown and a +/- 2 degree loft sleeve.

TaylorMade M3 440 Driver

Following the success and demand for the 440cc version in 2017, the M3 will again be available in a 440cc model, which utilises a slightly smaller head, deeper face and 22g of moveable weight, working in unison with all of the same technologies as its larger 460cc counterpart.

Both the 460 and 440cc models come equipped with MCA’s popular Tensei CK Red (high launch), Blue (mid launch) or White (low launch) shafts in R, S & X flexes along with a Lamkin UTx cord grip. As the company has offered for the past few years, TaylorMade is also once again offering more than two dozen additional premium custom shaft options at no upcharge

TaylorMade M4 Driver

The new TaylorMade M4 driver is packed with brand new technology and differentiates its design from the M3 driver by putting a larger emphasis on unparalleled forgiveness with straight distance.

The new M4 driver not only utilises TaylorMade’s most groundbreaking 2018 technologies (Twist Face & Hammerhead slot), but it also incorporates Geocoustic engineering. The new Geocoustic sole shape allows for a low CG and larger head size, but with a more curved sole engineers were able to increase the overall face size while combining geometry and acoustical engineering to unlock more forgiveness – leading to better sound and feel.

With a new 5-layer composite crown, and a lighter and thinner face, the new TaylorMade M4 driver is much more aerodynamic and boasts the thinnest, strongest and lightest composite panels that TaylorMade have ever created.

TaylorMade M4 Driver D-Type

Last year’s TaylorMade D-Type M2 was one of our favourite drivers, featuring slice-busting tech in a head that didn’t scream “I’m a slicer!”.

The new TaylorMade M4 D-Type (D means draw) has all the tech of the normal version, but is more heel-weighted (41g), has a slight offset and uses subtle visual cues to promote a square face at address and a more draw-biased face at impact.

TaylorMade M3 Irons

TaylorMade’s new M3 irons are a product that aim to deliver distance, while simultaneously retaining accuracy and workability in a more appealing, compact head shape. These irons are aimed at low-to-mid handicappers looking for distance, feel and control.

The TaylorMade M3 Irons feature the brand’s new RIBCOR internal ribbing structure, which works to stiffen the iron body while directing maximum energy to the ball during impact. They also have 15g of high density tungsten that has been added to the sole, which allows engineers to createa more compact head shape while maintaining the desired mass properties in a high performing iron; low centre of gravity and high MOI.

In addition to the latest RIBCOR and the new tungsten weight, TaylorMade’s new M3 irons have Face Slots, a Speed Pocket and a redesigned off-centre Inverted Cone – all optimised to provide distance, height, forgiveness and accuracy, while an 180° fluted hosel saves weight and doesn’t spoil cosmetics at address.

Tomo Bysteadt, TaylorMade’s Senior Director of Product Creation for irons, said: “This is aimed at golfers right between the M4 and the P790 person, and it’s definitely easier to hit than a 790 as its got a bit more of a forgiving sole. With the face slots and the RIBCOR technology, even though the heads are a little bit smaller than the M1 iron they are actually a lot more forgiving”

TaylorMade M4 Irons

TaylorMade’s new M4 irons are aimed at players looking for extra distance, forgiveness, and feel. Featuring RIBCOR, Face Slots, a Speed Pocket, and a redesigned off-centre Inverted Cone, each technology has been individually optimised specifically to deliver incredible distance and forgiveness.

With forgiveness being a significant focus of M4 irons’ engineering process, TaylorMade went to great lengths to achieve its high-MOI design (24% higher than the ’17 M2). Optimized mass distribution (toward the heel and toe) resulted in a high resistance to twisting of the head during an off-center impact, which translates to preserved ball speeds and improved forgiveness across the face.

Additional technologies in the M4 include a Fluted Hosel 2.0, an ultra-thin 1mm top-line along with the company’s thinnest-ever leading edge.

Tomo Bystedt, Senior Director of Product Creation – Irons at TaylorMade, said: “With our new RIBCOR technology, the M4 iron unlocks a new level of consistency and accuracy in a product designed to be the longest in our irons lineup. Combined with our thinnest face (1.5mm), our ultra-thin leading edge, and our thin-walled Speed Pocket, M4 achieve the fastest ball speeds we’ve ever produced in an iron”

TaylorMade M3 Fairway Wood

The ’17 M1 fairway broke innovation and performance barriers by being both adjustable and incredibly long, a goal the engineering team set in the conception stage and executed in its creation – and TaylorMade say the new M3 fairway is even better.

The new TaylorMade M3 fairway takes a premium, adjustable fairway to the next level. With a new composite crown and more moveable weight in an improved track system (29 grams compared to 25 in the ‘17 M1 fairway), the M3 Fairway has an improved ability for adjustment for preferred shot shape; from fade to draw, more than ever before.

Constructed with a 450 stainless steel body, the TaylorMade M3 fairway has a strong Ni-Co C300 face and a new, thinner 5-layer carbon composite crown (the same as the M3 & M4 drivers).

TaylorMade M4 Fairway Wood

The new TaylorMade M4 Fairway Wood boasts a bigger sweetspot than its predecessor (the M2), resulting in greater forgiveness and higher inertia for a better performing product. In the new M4 fairway, what TaylorMade call their ultimate distance fairway has been made even more forgiving.

They’ve taken everything they’ve learned from the use of multi-material composition, Speed Pocket, Geocoustic Technology and Inverted Cone Technology integration to deliver a remarkably high- performing complement to the M4 driver.

A new split-weight mass pad that separates weight at the outward extremities of the head in the M4 fairway wood to preserve ball speed on off-centre shots and make the sweetspot bigger, while a brand new face material (Ni-Co C300) is both stronger and thinner to improve both durability and speed.

TaylorMade M3 Hybrid

The new TaylorMade M3 Hybrid has a whole new look and is their most adjustable, personisable rescue to date. It incorporates a moderate sized, Tour-proven and preferred shape first introduced by the ’17 M1 Rescue, and its crown showcases a whole new look with a premium two tone, matte silver front section and gloss black back body framing the ball beautifully

The new TaylorMade M3 Hybrid has more moveable weight than the ’17 M1— 30g compared to 27g— to give the golfer more adjustability options to help correct predominantly left to right shots, designed to appeal to players of all ability levels.

Brian Bazzel: “This is the most adjustable, personisable rescue and what’s great about it from a performance stand point is you have things like the speed pocket, the loft sleeve and more movable weight (30 grams as opposed to 27g) to affect left-to-right. This is the first time we’ve created this two-tone matte silver/gloss black crown to create a beautiful look. Easy to fit, very versatile because it’s a smaller head.”

TaylorMade M4 Hybrid

The new TaylorMade M4 Hybrid is designed to help average golfers replace a long iron with higher, longer and more draw-biased performance thanks to a low-profile body and a larger sweet spot.

Similar to the M3 Hybrid, the new TaylorMade M4 Hybrid has a new split-weight mass pad which separates the weight at the outward extremities of the head to increase the club’s forgiveness by preserving ball speed on shots hit off-centre.

As with the TaylorMade M4 Driver and M4 Fairway, the M4 Hybrid features a speed pocket and geocoustic sole, combining to increase not only a better sound and feel but an increase in ball speed and enhanced overall playability.
