Xander Schauffele became the first rookie to win the season-ending Tour Championship in Atlanta.
His a two-under 68 final round saw him finish 12 under par and win by a one over Justin Thomas, who capped an incredible season by winning the $10 million FedEx Cup.
Schauffele collected more than $3.5m (£2.6m) on Sunday and said: “I’m a little speechless. I thought I’d missed the putt to win the tournament and fortunately it just lipped in. I was very relaxed for most of the day and got really nervous when I saw the leaderboard on 16.”
It is his second win on the PGA Tour, capping a rookie season which saw him bag four top-10 and 11 top-25 finishes.
He was one of only two rookies at the Tour Championship, and became the first rookie in the tournament’s history to win and the fifth player to win the tournament in their first appearance.
Schauffele, who’s played the TaylorMade’s P750 Tour Proto irons since the Honda Classic, put on a ball-striking display at East Lake, hitting just under 71% of greens in regulation.
