Bubba Watson contract with Volvik is over

Bubba Watson announced on Tuesday that his contract with the brightly-coloured golf ball manufacturer Volvik is ‘done’ – ending his multi-year deal less than 12 months after it was announced.

Volvik had announced in January that it had signed Watson to “a multi-year deal to play and endorse the company’s line of extreme performance golf balls”, yet the deal has ended prematurely. The two-time major champion announced ahead of the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open that he will instead be going back to playing with Titleist.

“I do not have a ball deal as we sit here today,” Watson said. “So I can play with whatever ball I want to.

“My deal was up, and so I’m … ball-free. I’m just going to go back to what I grew up with.

Since playing with the Volvik golf ball, Bubba recorded just two-top 10s last season, finishing 75th in the FedEx Cup.

“It was a frustrating year when it came to the golf. It was a great year off the course, but a frustrating year [on it]. Hopefully I’ll improve that.”
