Callaway have revealed their new ‘Super Premium’ Epic irons and hybrids
The “Jailbreak” tech on Callaway’s Epic drivers has been a massive hit this year, so it’s no surprise they’re backing the woods up with two new sets of irons and a hybrid.
Callaway insist their new creations are super premium and they’ve have exhausted their R&D team, and thanks to a £1749 price tag you are assured they’ve been developed without any limits to costs or engineering capability. Don’t get too excited though, as neither feature titanium rods behind the face like a Callaway Epic driver.
Callaway Epic and Epic Pro irons
Each head on the Callaway Epic and Epic Pro irons have been created with a strong exo cage body, which stiffens the head particularly in the top line and sole. This means the club face takes on more impact load which generates extra ball speed and carry distance.
A 360 face cup is 1mm thick at its thinnest point, and each head (from 3 – 8iron) has a heavy tungsten internal standing wave which precisely locates the centre of gravity and makes the mid and long irons easier to launch, and the short irons easier to control.
The Callaway Epic Pro irons have a slightly smaller head, with a narrower top edge and less offset and Callaway say they deliver a premium forged like feel along with the extra workability better players desire, all without any loss in performance.
Callaway Epic hybrids
At just 5g the Callaway Epic’s carbon crown is the lightest the company has ever made. It means there’s substantial amounts of weight redistributed to strategic areas of the head to dramatically increase MOI, lower the centre of gravity and make the Epic more powerful, forgiving and easy to launch.
Just like the Callaway Epic irons there’s a heavy tungsten internal standing wave shape inside the sole (35g) which helps increase forgiveness and power. A hyper speed face cup is thin and flexible, especially towards the bottom where most miss hits occur to maximise ball speeds and carry distance.
