FootJoy reveal new Performance Fitting System
Last updated:
FootJoy have teamed up with leading sports technology company BodiTrak Sports to conduct extensive research into the interaction between golfers and the ground during a golf swing. And through thousands of carefully evaluated swings they reckon they’ve discovered how golfers respond differently to different types of shoes.
Think about it if you have really active feet and you wear a really heavy leather soled pair of shoes which are stiff the very nature of the shoes limits your foot work. Which ultimately holds you back. FootJoy’s results have born out a brand new way of fitting golfers for shoes, which they claim unlocks speed and power in a golfers swing.
The key findings of the research were how three different “Performance Fit” shoe types (Mobile, Dual and Structured) offer increases of up to 3mph of club speed when properly fitted. These gains come across all levels of the game from PGA Tour players like Hunter Mahan and Brad Faxon to club golfers, which is seriously impressive considering we’re just talking shoes!
“We’ve made golf shoes for over 100 years, and we’re focused on the game of golf, we’ve learned a lot about golfers and their footwear said Doug Robinson, FootJoy’s VP Golf Footwear Worldwide. “This project allowed us to look at the link between golf footwear and performance in a totally different way.
“Structured shoes, like ICON Black or DryJoys Tour, are ideal for 30% of the golfing population, based on our testing,” continued Robinson. “But there’s another 30% that need something completely different – a shoe like Freestyle or D.N.A. that’s mobile and creates movement and motion in order to unleash their speed.”
The system consists of a BodiTrak pressure mat which along with an iPad, FJ’s custom mobile app and some very complicated algorithms can work out which type of “Performance Fit” best suits your game. FootJoy are rolling out the Performance Fitting System to selected retailers across the UK, you simply need to attend a fitting and with as little as three driver swings unlock your speed and power potential.
