Golf World Top 100 unveils the best golf resorts in Great Britain and Ireland to stay-and-play in 2025.

Spring has arrived, and with it the latest update to the globally respected Top 100 rankings of the best golf resorts in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

If you’re planning a stay-and-play break over on this side of the Atlantic this year then be sure to run through 2025’s lineup, compiled by renowned golf course writer Chris Bertram.

He said: “While there is pleasing stability to this ranking, there are some key moves all the way down the list and in my 16 years of compiling GB&I Resorts lists, I’ve never known as many of the venues make notable improvements.

“It means some harsh falls for a few old favorites, but I have to reflect on what is there, and in the 10-25 section in particular it is exceptionally competitive now.”

Retaining the top spot this year was Scotland’s Gleneagles Resort. The Perthshire course which hosted the 2014 Ryder Cup and 2019 Solheim Cup scored a near-perfect 99/100 with only a single mark dropped for setting.

The Century Bar at Gleneagles.

“What doesn’t it offer? Gleneagles is just so consistently good that its entries and marks will always be so similar to the last ranking,” added Bertram.

“Gleneagles is one of the best – if not the best. It does everything to a level beyond most others. As a result, five points is the biggest margin between No.1 and No.2 of any ranking we produce.”

Joining Gleneagles on the podium was Trump Turnberry, home to the World No.4 ranked course – the Ailsa – making it a one-two for Scotland with a score of 94/100. Adare Manor, host to the 2027 Ryder Cup scooped bronze for Ireland, scoring 86/100 thanks largely to its incredible hotel with exceptional amenities.

There was plenty more representation for Scotland and Ireland in the top 10, exclusively in fact, with the Emerald Isle featuring six resorts to Scotland’s four. Furthermore, the two bucket-list golf destinations accounted for 18 of the top 25 resorts for the second year running.

Tiger Woods is favorite to captain Team USA in the Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in 2027.

The highest-ranked resorts from other nations were Lough Erne (NIR, 11th), Celtic Manor (WAL, 12th), and The Grove (ENG, 13th).

The highest riser in this year’s edition of the rankings was Cameron House & The Carrick, jumping six places to squeeze into the top 25.

“Their balconies gaze across Loch Lomond and the food is absolutely outstanding, up there with anything on this list for my money. And the Great Scots’ Bar is a glorious place to while away even more time, very easily into the wee small hours,” said Bertram.

To compile the rankings, each golf resort was marked for:

  • The quality of its course(s) – 40 marks
  • Accommodation – 20 marks
  • Non-golf amenities – 20 marks
  • Setting – 20 marks

“I’ve been to 91 of the resorts, so I know there is absolutely nothing to choose between some that appear quite far apart,” he added.

“Golf is rightly the most important category but I take accommodation and non-golf amenities into account strongly, because I don’t want a list of ‘courses with rooms’.”
