The English country club, which was shut down in 2016, will reopen after planning permission was granted to new owners
A golf course will reopen after its new owners gained planning permission to build holiday lodges and a spa on the site.
The Kyngs Golf & Country Club, in Market Bosworth, near Leicester, first opened in 2011 but was closed just five years later when the land was sold.
New owners Statue Homes had previously sought permission to build a 50-bedroom hotel on the site, but were knocked back when locals argued the town doesn’t need such a facility and that it would “have a dramatic effect on the landscape”.
At the time, residents group The Market Bosworth Society said: “Golf has not been allowed since the property changed hands and the golf club members at that time were evicted from the site.”
Statue Home have now been told they must reinstate the golf course if their plans, which also include a brand new clubhouse, are to be allowed.
The company, according to the Leicester Mercury, has now asked the local borough council for permission to build a “golf leisure and health spa”, which will feature a swimming pool, hydrotherapy, training and ice plunge pools, various saunas, a gym, dance studios, and a health bar.
They have also requested consent to build 126 lodges, which would be accessible by electric buggies and only used by members of the Kyngs Golf & Country Club and those playing the course.
