TECH TALK Cleveland has taken its lightweight technology story and applied it to irons: The CG16 features an 85g steel shaft (most steel shafts weigh about 110 grams in this category.) The same laser-milling technique used on Cleveland’s wedges is used on the CG16s. The purpose is to create surface roughness between the grooves.
PLAYER COMMENTS
L “I love the dark finish and the single white groove on the bottom for alignment. I felt like I could hit the ball anywhere on the face.” … “Long and strong.”
M “I tried the graphite shaft, and it felt amazing – easy to hit and easy on the hands.”
HOT When you’re a leading wedge maker, coming out with an iron that features the same face technology as your wedges is smart.
NOT For a company so good at educating golfers on the proper amount of loft between wedges, the lofts on this iron set are too low and too close together: A 19-degree 3-iron? A 21-degree 4-iron? Come on, man!
