Belek

It’s still hard to believe that the once virtually unknown area of Belek is now widely regarded by golfers from all over the world as a golfing paradise. It’s even harder to fathom that the transformation has taken place in a little over two decades. Yes, just over 20 years ago this area was marshy wasteland with an abundance of umbrella pines; today it has become one of the top destinations for sun-seeking golfers.

Many of the world’s top course architects have strutted their stuff over this terrain, producing a great variety of challenges, culminating in arguably the pick of the Mediterranean’s golfing hotspots. Incredibly there are 11 venues – five with 18 holes, four with 27 and two with 36 – within a four-mile inland strip. One of the star attractions is the Montgomerie Maxx Royal, which will host The Turkish Airlines Open on November 13-16.

Monty’s stunning layout is plotted within 104 hectares of picturesque pine forest among sandy ridges close to the Mediterranean.
