Heythrop Park – The Cotswolds Playground
Last updated:
Heythrop Park offers one of the best stay-and-play golf breaks in the UK.
With a superb championship golf course and a luxurious adult-only hotel, this Cotswolds playground is the ideal destination for a getaway. Whether it’s high-quality golf, incredible views, beautiful food, or the ultimate leisure and spa facilities, Heythrop has it all.
What to expect from the golf course
Heythrop Park’s quintessential English championship golf course will test your driving ability as well as your accuracy. Twisting through 440 acres of undulating terrain, the 7,088-yard, par 72 course meanders over ridges, through valleys, and is studded with ancient woodland, lakes, streams, and strategically placed bunkers, while also being surrounded by amazing views of the Cotswolds.
The Bainbridge Course was redesigned in 2009 by Mackenzie and Ebert, the architects behind recent changes at several well-known Open Championship venues including Turnberry, Royal St George’s and Royal Portrush.
Heythrop Park has also been host to numerous high-profile professional tournaments, including the English trophy on the European Challenge tour.
This challenging course provides a selection of stand-out holes. The 314-yard par-4 6th, Archer Bridge, where the green nestles beside a fishing pond, the spectacular par-5 11th, South Avenue, which heads downhill towards the old Skating Lake before turning sharply to the left to a small green that sits between the water and the woodland, and the 528-yard par-5 14th, The Glyne, which is similar to Augusta’s 13th hole in as much as it sweeps from right to left around trees to a low-lying green situated close to an 18th century stone bridge.
Last, but by no means least, is the par-5 18th, Grand Avenue. This closing hole has a strong claim to be regarded as the straightest hole in golf. Measuring close to 600 yards, it seems even longer still as the view is elongated by the majestic Heythrop Park Manor House which provides a stunning backdrop situated some 100 yards behind the final green.
