What’s In The Bag: LIV Superstar Bryson DeChambeau (March 2025 Update)

No one in the history of golf has approached their equipment set-up like Bryson DeChambeau… Today’s Golfer takes a look inside what clubs “The Scientist” is currently using.

Bryson DeChambeau has earned his nickname, “The Scientist”, very aptly seen as though he’s a physics major and he has an obsession to squeeze every last inch of performance from his swing and equipment. No one is anywhere near as complex or analytical as the Crushers GC captain.

To be fair to him, it’s clearly working. The LIV Golf and YouTube golf star has built up a pretty decent resume with two individual victories on the LIV Golf Tour, nine wins on the PGA Tour, one title on the DP World Tour, and two Major Championships in the form of the 2020 and 2024 US Open.

The American recorded LIV Golf’s lowest-ever round in what he described as “the greatest moment of his career” when he carded an outstanding 58 at the 2023 LIV Golf Greenbrier event.

‘Kranking’ up the yardage

Having achieved over 200mph ball speed in and out of competition, Bryson Dechameabu is known for overpowering golf courses with a rather unorthodox driver set-up. In previous years, the Cobra LTDx and TaylorMade Stealth 2 Plus were common in the physician’s bag. Recently though, the Krank Golf Formula Fire LD driver, which has been used by the winners of 26 World Long Drive Championships, has been cemented at the top of his bag for the last season, seeing incredible success on the LIV Tour.

The Krank driver is now a thing of the past, as Bryson has moved onto his own creation, teaming up with L.A Golf to build a driver that features some revolutionary technology for different swing speeds to improve the dispersion on mishits. We’re sure that Bryson will put this LA Golf driver in play as soon as it’s released.

Bryson DeChambeau's new LA Golf driver is now for sale.

Let’s take an in-depth look at what’s in the bag of professional golf’s longest hitter.

What drivers does Bryson DeChambeau use?

Bryson DeChambeau uses a Krank Golf Formula Fire Pro LD driver (6°) with a Project X HZRDUS T1100 shaft

For most of us mere mortals who don't possess swing speeds in excess of 175mph, drivers in the mold of those created for long-drive competitions are perhaps worth steering clear of.

DeChambeau is no mere mortal in this department, however, topping the PGA Tour driving distance rankings before his move to LIV Golf in 2022. He also finished second at the 2022 Professional Long Drivers Association's World Championship, highlighting his impressive credentials in this area.

Kranks says their Formula Fire LD driver uses a carbon cup face made from super-hardened beta titanium. DeChambeau believes the construction and the bulge and roll of the head permit him a straighter ball flight, and if Greenbrier's performance is anything to go by, we imagine this won't be the last time Bryson games the Krank Formula Fire LD in tournament golf.

What fairway woods does Bryson DeChambeau use?

Bryson DeChambeau uses a Krank Golf Formula Fire Fairway Wood (10° & 13°)

DeChambeau did carry two Cobra fairway woods, but since he's switched his driver to the Krank Golf Formula Fire LD, he has matched it with the Krank Golf Formula Fire Fairway Woods. He did tinker with the TaylorMade BRNR Mini driver over his 10° fairway wood but has since changed back. You may be wondering why the lofts of his fairway wood are so low; Bryson states that his lofts are lower to control the spin rate.

What irons does Bryson DeChambeau use?

Bryson DeChambeau uses Avoda Prototype irons (5-PW) with LA Golf Prototype shafts

Price: From $1,230.00 / £1,131.00
"The Scientist" is perhaps best known for his unorthodox approach when it comes to his iron sets. His most recent set of irons are made by Avoda chief Tom Bailey, and they are single length from his 5 iron to his lob wedge (you read that right).

These irons come with bulge and roll technology, meaning that the face looks slightly curved at the playing profile. The curve will help mishits stay straight by negating gear effect, a concept not seen before in irons.

Like his metalwoods, these irons are incredibly strong lofted. The 5 iron is more like a 3 iron, so his yardages from dynamic loft alone go a very long way! This isn't just to gloat to other LIV golfers though, as Bryson states he needs the loft lower to control the spin rate at his speeds. These are coupled with LA Golf Bryson Series 125g iron shafts and JumboMax grips. Bryson will likely be putting some custom LA Golf irons in play in 2025, but we're yet to see them debuted long term.

What wedges does Bryson DeChambeau use?

Bryson DeChambeau uses Ping Glide 4.0 wedges (45°, 50°, 56°, and 60°) with LA Golf BAD Prototype Rebar shafts

Ping’s fourth-generation Glide 4.0 wedge is halfway between a full-on blade wedge and a much deeper traditional cavity back. By splitting weight low and high in the blade stability is increased, which ups consistency particularly well when shots are hit high on the face.

Compared to previous models there’s a slightly shorter blade length, which improves cosmetics, and the model is generally just more attractively shaped.

A lovely wedge that comes with a finish that’s great at dissipating moisture, so you can expect zero reduction in spin between dry and damp conditions.

There’s also a slightly longer grip, which is great for whenever you need to grip down and hit delicate approaches with additional control. The 4.0 didn’t quite nudge its way into the upper echelons of our best golf wedges data charts for spin (8,497 rpm), but it was our pro’s most accurate wedge with shots hit into a stunning 10.8 sq yds area.

What putter does Bryson DeChambeau use?

Bryson DeChambeau uses a SIK Pro-C Series Armlock putter with a JumboFlat 17 grip

Price: $399.99 / £229.99
SIK stands for “Study In Kinematics” and is the brand used by Bryson DeChambeau, who has seen a huge improvement in his putting stats since making the transition to armlock putting.

"Descending Loft Technology has made a huge difference to my game, and I am excited that golfers of all standards now have the chance to appreciate what it can do for their putting – improved distance control, consistent ball striking, and confidence on the greens,” says 2020 US Open champion DeChambeau.

SIK's Descending Loft Technology (DLT) involves four flat surfaces being milled into the putter face. Each plane descends in loft by one degree from the top of the face to the bottom of the face. DLT is designed to enable the golfer to present the putter face at a consistent launch angle, thereby creating a more predictable ball roll and better distance control.

DeChambeau uses the SIK Pro model, which is a blade-style head, but we particularly like the extra large mallet Flo head for even more stability and forgiveness.

What grip does Bryson DeChambeau use?

Bryson DeChambeau uses JumboMax Ultralite grips

Another unique aspect of Bryson DeChambeau's setup is his grips. Using an oversized (and we MEAN oversized) grip helps Bryson to maintain a softer hold on his clubs to increase his club head speed, plus the thicker profile means it stops excessive over-rotation of the clubface, staying squarer through the swing.

Having formerly used a Bridgestone, DeChambeau now joins the 71% of tour players who game a Titleist ball.

The Titleist golf ball of choice for the big hitter is the Titleist Pro V1x Left Dash which is built for golfers with quicker swing speeds like DeChambeau because of the high ball flight and low long game spin that characterizes this golf ball. Bryson has said he's trialling several new golf balls recently, so expect this to potentially change this year.

What golf shoes does Bryson DeChambeau wear?

Bryson DeChambeau signs with Reebok for Crushers GC in 2025
