What’s In The Bag: Aaron Rai (April 2025 update)

By , Golf Equipment Writer. Sometimes good, always sensational.

We find out what’s in the bag of DP World and PGA Tour winner Aaron Rai, the English golfer coached by Me and My Golf stars Andy Proudman and Piers Ward.

Aaron Rai is a champion on both sides of the Atlantic. The Englishman’s most recent victory came on the PGA Tour at the 2024 Wyndham Championship, where Rai won by two strokes over Max Greyserman with a score of 18-under par. Now a serious contender for Majors and Ryder Cups, we sat down with Aaron Rai before the 2025 Masters tournament to see how he feels he’s involved as a player to get into contention at the biggest golf tournaments in the world.

Aaron Rai is on Luke Donald's radar for the 2025 Ryder Cup

With victory at the Wyndham Championship and an impressive number of results in 2024 and 2025, Rai is firmly on European Ryder Captain Luke Donald’s mind ahead of the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black.

The Englishman waited nearly four years since his previous victory at the Scottish Open at the Renaissance Club in October 2020.

Aaron Rai lifted his second European Tour title with victory in the Scottish Open at the Renaissance Club. The then 25-year-old beat fellow countryman Tommy Fleetwood with a par at the first play-off hole after both players had finished tied at 11-under.

Rai produced a spectacular weekend of golf, overcoming horrendous weather in Saturday’s third round to shoot a one-under 70 before taking full advantage of more benign conditions in his seven-under 64 on Sunday.

The Wolverhampton golfer’s second victory came just a week after he finished runner-up in the Irish Open at Galgorm Castle Golf Club and nearly two years after his maiden triumph – a wire-to-wire win at the Hong Kong Open.

As well as being coached by fellow Black Country men and Me and My Golf YouTube stars Andy Proudman and Piers Ward, Rai is also renowned for wearing two gloves and using iron headcovers. He is non-contracted when it comes to his equipment, but the majority of his golf clubs are made by TaylorMade.

What Driver does Aaron Rai use?

Aaron Rai uses a TaylorMade M6 Driver (9º) with an Aldila Synergy Blue 70TX shaft

Price: £137.98-179.98
The curious case of Aaron Rai and his M6 driver is an interesting one, and maybe something more amateur golfers should pay attention to.

Having been in his bag for years at this point, it's clearly a club that Rai feels comfortable in - so much so that he's prepared to sacrifice any potential gains for. It's also given him some big wins, including his Scottish Open in 2020 and the Wyndham Championship in late 2024.

The TaylorMade M6 is even more unusual in that it was considered the 'Game Improver' model in its release year, coming in second to the M5 driver that featured in the bags of virtually every TaylorMade staffer, including the 2019 Masters Champion.

Rai has been tinkering with a Titleist GT2 Driver in 2025, although it's yet to make it's way into his bag fully yet.

It just goes to show you that changing out of something that works isn't always going to make a difference for you.

What Fairway Wood does Aaron Rai use?

Aaron Rai uses a TaylorMade Qi10 Fairway Wood (3-15º) with a Fujikura Ventus Blue 8X

Built with an original Ventus Blue model, the TaylorMade Qi10 3-wood is a fantastic weapon in Rai's arsenal.

Added to the bag last year, replacing his much-loved TaylorMade SIM fairway wood, the Qi10 offers a slimmer profile for Rai and lower and further rearward CG (Center of Gravity) making it much easier to hit consistently.

TaylorMade have been having success with their fairway woods for a long time now, but in particular with non-contracted players. They actually won the fairway count at 7 of 8 PGA Tour Signature Events in 2024, as well as all four Majors and the Olympic Games, so Aaron Rai isn't the only player to trust this club.

What Hybrid does Aaron Rai use?

Aaron Rai uses a Titleist TSR2 Hybrid (24º) with a Mitsubishi Tensei CK Pro White 90TX

The Titleist hybrids are some of the few hybrid models that are able to stick around on the PGA and DP World Tours. They offer more versatility in flight and head shape than some other manufacturers do, at least that's the feedback you get when you ask a playing pro why he's chosen the Titleist option.

Don't let that put you off, though, Titleist hybrids - whether the TSR that Rai uses or the new GT replacements that replaced them - are still easier to hit and designed to get the ball higher into the air than any long iron can.

The TSR2 hybrid is the larger head of the two mainline models, TSR2 and TSR3, focusing more on keeping the ball as straight and high for as long as possible. TSR3 is meant for the golfer who wants some help but is also looking to shape their shots into greens with a little more ease.

What Irons does Aaron Rai use?

Aaron Rai uses TaylorMade P7TW irons (5-9i) with True Temper Dynamic Gold S300 shafts

Another part of the bag that has a relation to the Big Cat himself, Rai chooses to use the TaylorMade P7TW irons.

It's not unusual to see anyone who played Nike clubs in their younger years gravitate towards the P7TW irons. Built with input from Mike Taylor, the man who originally designed Tiger's Nike irons all the way back in the early 2000s, the P7TW bears a lot of resemblance to the now defunct club brand's models, with a longer heel-to-toe measurement and more grooves on the face for spin control.

You'll see ex-Nike players like Tommy Fleetwood and Scottie Scheffler in these irons too, although Rai's choice of Dynamic Gold S300 shafts is a little different from most tour pros. The S300 is a 'stiff' shaft, albeit one with plenty of mass behind it at 128g, whereas most on tour will opt for the stronger X100 model.

This is another good example of stop looking at the shaft label in the clubs, and pay attention to the strike and ball flight instead!

What Wedges does Aaron Rai use?

Aaron Rai uses a combination of Titleist Vokey SM9 46.10F (bent to 44º) and 48.10F (bent to 49º), SM10 54.12D, and Vokey WedgeWorks 60.K wedges

While there is a mixture of release year models in Rai's bag, the consistent theme is, of course, Titleist Vokey.

Rai has worked with his namesake, Aaron Dill, Titleist's number one wedge technician, to create a set of wedges that complement his needs throughout different course setups and conditions.

As his irons stop at 9i, having a replacement for a Pitching wedge is obviously a priority, and also helps for Rai to figure out how he can fill the remainder of his short game's tools. He doesn't play a 4-iron in his bag, so even with the PW 46@44º there's room for another three wedges.

His 'LW' wedge is interesting in that it has started life as a 60º K-grind, a model with a wider sole, but has clearly had a lot of the sole shaven and stripped back for the turf interaction that Rai wants to see.

What Putter does Aaron Rai use?

Aaron Rai uses a TaylorMade TP Collection DuPage putter with a SuperStroke 1.0 Tour grip

There's not many that have picked out the TaylorMade TP putter collection over the last few years but more fool them who dismiss the line entirely.

There's some incredible feedback and roll available through TaylorMade's innovative premium line, and while it doesn't see some of the headlines that the Spider putters that feature in the bags of Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, there's some beautiful putters to be found here (as well as some unusual shapes like Rai's DuPage).

The DuPage model has been fitted with a SuperStroke Tour in the 1.0 size, which is the brand's closest model to a classic putter grip in style but with their signature Traxion technology.

What Golf Ball does Aaron Rai use?

Aaron Rai uses a Titleist ProV1 Golf Ball

As with the majority of the field, Aaron Rai puts his trust in Titleist's premium golf - the ProV1.

Rai plays the standard model of V1 in contrast to most PGA Tour players. Having grown up playing on European links courses and West Midlands parklands, Aaron plays the lower-spinning and lower-launching model to match the flight window that he wants to see, which is lower than most other golfers on tour.

As he plays across two different Tours and lots of different conditions, he prefers to have something that can be adapted to different heights instead of being more one-dimensional and require stronger swing changes to action a flight change.
Aaron Rai wears adidas apparel, uses Glenmuir MacWet gloves and plays a Titleist Pro V1 (2019) ball.
