What’s In The Bag: Madelene Sagstrom
Last updated:
What golf clubs and balls do Swedish golfer and Olympian Madelene Sagstrom use? Today’s Golfer reviews what’s in the bag.
Madelene Sagstrom claimed her first LPGA Tour victory at the Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Rio Golf Club with a course record 62 (10-under), becoming the 12th Swedish winner on tour.
The triumph helped Sagstrom qualify as one of the two players to represent Sweden at the delayed 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo where she eventually finished in 20th place, two strokes ahead of compatriot Anna Nordqvist.
However, it was Nordqvist who edged out Sagstrom just a fortnight later at the British Open after a bogey on the final hole resigned Sagstrom to a tie for second place – her best finish to date in a Major.
A consistent run of form in 2022 saw Sagstrom record four consecutive top-ten finishes, pushing her into the top 30 of the Women’s World Golf Rankings for the first time, and earning herself a spot in Suzann Pettersen’s 2023 Solheim Cup team for a third time.
Sagstrom is a Calaway staffer, but what models and balls does she opt for? Let’s find out what’s in the bag of Madelene Sagstrom in 2023…
What driver does Madelene Sagstrom use?
Madelene Sagstrom uses a Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond driver (10.5°)
The low-spinning Paradym Triple Diamond driver is a popular choice with tour pros, with many Callaway players seeing an increase of 2-3mph ball speed over the previous Rogue ST model.
In our driver’s test, we found that the Paradym Triple Diamond will be a cracking driver when it’s in the right hands. If you swing with the speed and consistency of Jon Rahm and Xander Schauffele, this may be the perfect driver for you. The chances are that many of you reading this don’t swing as precisely as these tour players so may want to look for a low-spin driver with a little more forgiveness.
TG’s test pro-Neil Wain said when hit out the middle the Paradym Triple Diamond is a rocket. This is proven in our test, with the Paradym Triple Diamond ranking second for carry distance. However, testing also showed that anything hit off-center was punished severely by the Paradym, resulting in a 59-yard-left-to-right dispersion.

What fairway wood does Madelene Sagstrom use?
Madelene Sagstrom uses a Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond fairway wood
Just like the Paradym Triple Diamond driver, the fairway is fast and long when hit from the middle. At 254 yards it was the second-longest on test.
However, while it looks neat and attractive at address, there’s no hiding that it hit shots into an area twice the size of our test average. It also launched shots with 700rpm less spin, flew four yards lower, and hit the ground at a five-degree shallower angle than our test averages. Put simply, the majority of club golfers will struggle to launch and live with this model on the golf course.

What wedges does Madelene Sagstrom use?
Madelene Sagstrom uses Callaway Jaws MD5 wedges (50°, 54°, 58°) with KBS shafts
We weren’t massive fans of the previous MD4 wedges as the toe was very rounded, which drew the eye unnecessarily. But MD5 is much more attractively shaped and desirable.
Being a tour-style wedge, Jaws has a very sharp leading edge which calls for precise and accurate ball striking, especially on damp turf or sand. In the wrong hands, sharp edges increase the likelihood of heavy and fat shots. Jaws is a really good-looking wedge with plenty of modern spin tech, and it will be most at home in the hands of above-average golfers.
