Last updated:
Today’s Golfer takes a look inside the bag of Thomas Detry, the Belgian currently playing on both the European Tour and the PGA Tour.
Thomas Detry started to play golf at the age of five, alongside hockey and tennis, and started competing in international golf tournaments by the time he was a teenager. Detry won the Dutch Junior Open in 2009 at age 16, and was selected for the Junior Ryder Cup team a year later.
He followed good friend Thomas Pieters to University in Illinois to study business management, and in his final year of studies was named the 7th best amateur in the world.
Detry turned professional in 2016 and made the cut in his first 10 professional events on the Challenge Tour, with one win at the Bridgestone Challenge that year. He finished runner-up in two European Tour events in 2020, The Hero Open and the Celtic Classic, moving him up to 75th in the World Golf Rankings that year.
Detry finished tied for 4th place at the 2024 PGA Championship.
