What’s In The Bag: Paul Waring

What clubs did Paul Waring use on his way to victory at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship? We take a look inside the bag of the two-time DP World Tour winner.
After turning pro in 2007 off of Plus 5 Paul Waring has been a mainstay of the European Tour. He qualified for the tour in 2008 after securing his card in his first attempt at qualifying school. The man from Birkenhead, England applied his trade for 10 years on tour until he was finally victorious in his 200th start at the 2018 Nordea Masters.
The 39-year-old has now added title number two to his name at the 2024 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. The Englishman shot a course record 11-under 61 in Friday’s second round and has all but guaranteed his PGA Tour card for 2025 following the conclusion of next week’s DP World Tour Championship. He posted rounds of 64-61-73-66 to record a total of 24-under par. This victory at Yas Links has seen Waring jump from 229th to 105th in the OWGR.
Six years on from his maiden DP World Tour win in Sweden, Waring returned to the winner’s circle in style as he added his name to the Rolex Series roll of honor at Yas Links. In those six years without a win, his bag has changed quite a bit.
In 2024 the Englishman has kept to his favored set-up of driver, two fairway woods, one utility iron, five-nine iron, 46°, 50°, 56°, and 60° wedges and putter. By comparison, he carried one less wedge and one less fairway wood for his breakthrough win in Sweden, he had a full set of irons in the bag (3-9).
At the start of 2024, Waring played with a Titleist TSR3 driver but has switched to a Ping G430 LST driver since the Amgen Irish Open.
The only other change of note saw him switch from his old TaylorMade M2 Tour #3 wood to a Wilson Dynapower #3 wood at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. He now looks settled with his Ping G430 Max which he first put into the bag at the KLM Open.
The 39-year-old has used the same putter for all 26 of his DP World Tour starts this season, the Odyssey 2-Ball Tour Lined Eleven putter which delivered at the perfect moment as a birdie-birdie finish sealed a two-shot victory in the first event of the DP World Tour Play-Offs.
