What golf clubs does Jake Knapp use? An in-depth look at what’s in the former security guards golf bag after his first win as a rookie on the PGA Tour
Jake Knapp played in his first PGA TOUR event over nine years ago at the Farmers Insurance Open and before the 2024 season had managed just three other starts on the PGA TOUR. It was only three years ago the American had no status on any tour and was working shifts as a security guard at a nightclub.
However, after grinding it out under his conditional status on the Korn Ferry Tour, he finished 2023 in 13th place where he claimed his PGA TOUR card for the 2024 season, and just over two months into the year he is a PGA TOUR winner!

In just his ninth PGA TOUR start, Jake Knapp, secured a two-shot victory at the Mexico Open, earning nearly $1.5 million and entry into The Masters and several of the PGA TOUR Signature Events for the remainder of the season. The American has nearly tripled his lifelong PGA TOUR earnings in just one single event having earned $562,132 before teeing it up on Thursday.
The 2024 season is set to be something to remember for the American – playing in five events and making four cuts, Knapp has finished in the top 10 twice, which including this week’s victory accumulates to over $2,000,000 in prize money.

He finished T-3 at the Farmers Insurance Open in his seventh career PGA TOUR start and third since becoming a PGA TOUR member. Although Knapp is a multi-time winner on PGA TOUR Canada, he never held a post-round lead in any of his Korn Ferry Tour starts, and Saturday marks the first time in his PGA TOUR career he’s held a day-ending lead by himself. Knapp felt his last few starts helped him rally his composure ahead of his round on Sunday.
“All that stuff definitely plays its own part,” Knapp said. “I feel like I know how to handle myself and handle the situation and everything else. … Obviously being in the thick of it at the Farmers Insurance Open helped as well. So yeah, it’s just go out there and execute golf shots and there’s not too much else to it.”

For a man, who just a few years ago was checking IDs on the door of a nightclub, to now be the 52nd best golfer in the world is that of fairytales. At the end of the 2023 season, Knapp was 174th in the OWGR and after just five starts this season has managed to jump within a hair of the top 50 in the world leaping ahead of some of the biggest stars in the game.
Sunday capped off a 25-birdie week with a two-shot victory. In full control, Knapp carded rounds of 67-64-63-71 around Vidanta Vallarta to post 19 under, while gaining 11.5 strokes on the field from tee to green. He led the field in Strokes Gained: Approach (+8.729), hitting 76% greens in regulation (T5), and ranked 11th in SG: Off the Tee (+2.973). Down the stretch Sunday, Knapp got up-and-down on four of the last six holes, including a birdie on the par-5 14th, to secure the victory.
While Knapp had struggled to settle on his top-of-the-bag selection for 2025, testing Ping, PXG, and TaylorMade models (including flirting with an old M5 for a brief moment in February), it seems that he found something to feel comfortable with again at the Cognizant Classic while on his way to shoot at impressive 12-under 59 in the first round, joining a very select group of players on the PGA Tour.

Knapp is a PXG staffer and most of his bag is made up of PXG gear, he games their irons and a wedge, along with a few clubs from other brands he can’t seem to let go. He’s thankful PXG stuck with him and is glad it all paid off. “It has always been my dream to win on the PGA TOUR. I am grateful that PXG believed I could get it done and am proud to bring one home for the PXG Troops.”
