What’s In The Bag: Hideki Matsuyama

What golf clubs does Asia’s most prolific PGA Tour winner play with? Let’s take a look at what’s in the bag for Hideki Matsuyama in 2024
Hideki Matsuyama’s victory at the 2024 FedEx St Jude Championship was his tenth on the PGA Tour, making the Japanese international Asia’s most prolific PGA Tour winner, having now amassed two more titles than K.J. Choi. Hideki avoided any regret after a double-bogey on 16 was matched by two birdies on the 17th and 18th to shoot a mostly steady level-par final round 70, with 11 pars included otherwise, to defeat Norway’s Viktor Hovland and American Xander Schauffele by two shots.

With a five-shot lead to start the day, Matsuyama’s early clubhouse lead wasn’t ousted by any of the leading contenders despite his rocky 16th hole, with birdies having already come on the 8th and 11th and balancing bogeys on 12 and 14. This finish was just as exhilarating as his early win in 2024 at The Genesis Invitational even with a different look to his final round scorecard from that week in February, where for the second time the 31-year-old shot 62 or better in a final round to win on the PGA Tour – only two other golfers have achieved this on multiple occasions – Rory McIlroy and Jason Day.
Before winning the 2024 Genesis Invitational, Matsuyama hadn’t really been knocking on the door, being absent from the top 10 for 343 days and it was 763 days since his previous latest victory at the 2022 Sony Open in Hawaii.

Prior to his win at the Sony Open, Matsuyama enjoyed a successful 2021, winning the ZOZO Championship in the Fall and becoming the Masters Champion in the Spring, which produced one of the most special moments in Masters history. Hideki won the Masters four years after claiming the 2017 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational – taking an extended vacation from the winner’s circle clearly doesn’t bother Hideki!
Between 2011 and 2017, Matsuyama claimed fourteen international victories on the professional circuit (one as an amateur), on the PGA Tour and Japan Golf Tour – in total, Hideki has amassed eight victories on the Japan Golf Tour.
Over the years, Matsuyama has relied on Srixon golf equipment to propel him to the heights he’s reached throughout his career, but what exactly does the most decorated Asian in PGA Tour history play with?
