What’s In The Bag: Anthony Kim’s equipment of choice after 12-year golf exile
Last updated:
After 12 years in exile, what golf equipment will folklore hero Anthony Kim wield as he returns to battle it out on the LIV Golf circuit in 2024?
Forget the mega-money moves for Rahm, DJ, and Koepka…LIV’s most intriguing signing to date is golf’s forgotten man – Anthony Kim (AK).
Greg Norman shrewdly pounced on his chance to bring Kim, once dubbed “the next Tiger Woods” over to the breakaway tour, and it might just be the signing that persuades golf’s middle ground, and even a few traditionalists to give LIV a crack.
AK rose to prominence on the PGA Tour in the late noughties, winning three times in a six-year spell that saw him rout Sergio Garcia 5&4 to help steer Team USA to victory at the 2008 Ryder Cup in Valhalla, and six months later, set a Masters record for the most birdies in a single round (11).
The Californian rose to a career-high of No.6 in the world rankings, registering three top-10 finishes in Major Championships, with many believing the best was yet to come from the talented Mr Kim.
The promise was never realized, however, with a series of injuries culminating in AK undergoing surgery in June 2012 to repair his Achilles tendon. His withdrawal from the Wells Fargo Championship a month prior was to be the last real ‘sighting’ we had of the man described as “golf’s yeti”.
With no retirement announcement, explanation of whereabouts, and endless speculation, AK’s return after 12 years in the wilderness is made all the more intriguing, fueled by LIV’s bizarre ‘dance of redemption’ teaser video.
Having gamed an exclusively Nike bag back in 2012, AK returned to the range in Jeddah with a new look Titleist setup. Let’s take a look at what the 38-year-old has in play for his eagerly anticipated return to golf.
