What we say...

Technology
Skechers are one of the world’s biggest shoe brands – and now they’ve brought their successful running shoe technology to golf. One of the lightest shoes on the market – they weigh less than 11oz each – the GObionic features a wider end section to help spread your toes and stay stable over the ball. Comfort comes from a “ResaMax” cushion insole and “Waterseal Technology” helps keep the rain at bay. They may be spikeless, but the “ResaGrip” outsole is based on the company’s trail running gear and provides traction. Matt Kuchar is a fan, wearing them on the PGA Tour this year. Based on Skechers running-shoe technology, the GoBionic features a 4mm heel-to-forefoot drop for a more neutral foot position. The injection-molded outsole aids traction and flexibility. The GoBionic is one of three models in the Go range; click here to see the Go Golf and Go Golf Drive shoes.

Tested
As reviewed in our 2014 Shoes Test:
If you can handle the lairy design, you’ll get a comfortable, light shoe with enough grip for dry days. The heel cup is quite low, so you’ll need to get the perfect size or risk feeling it might slip. Very comfortable. Grip was OK, light but perhaps tricky to clean.

We took a fourball of TG readers to South Essex Golf Club in Brentwood to see how they got on with them over 18 holes – watch their video review of the Skechers GoBionic golf shoes above.

  • 4 out of 5 Lightest shoes I've ever worn

    By Dougie Greig

I also was one of the fourball who tested these for Today's Golfer. They fitted well out of the box and were really comfy. The colour obviously hits you straight away. I play a lot of golf and they are definitely the lightest shoes I’ve ever worn. I’ve got quite wide feet so have had shoes in the past that have really pinched my toes. These were really comfortable and felt like a pair of slippers. I had a couple of slips with my right foot when I was on the tee, but that was more to do with my swing. The colour was a bit too loud for me, but there are more subtle options available. I think they’ll be a good shoe all year round because the studs on the bottom are bigger than most spikeless shoes, and they’re waterproof.

  • 4 out of 5 Very light, liked the style

    By Tony Packman

I tested these for TG. They're comfortable and you notice how light they are straight away. The fit was really good and they’re pleasing to look at. I quite like the styling. They are really light and they keep you balanced. I had no rubbing or pain even though they were straight out of the box. I’d maybe question the grip you’d get in winter conditions. They were easy to get on, very comfortable and so light.

  • 4 out of 5 So lightweight and comfortable

    By Ken Hill

I was part of the fourball that tested these shoes for TG. They are very comfortable and they cushion your feet really well. They come up quite big because of the width at the toe end so I opted for a slightly smaller size than normal. I could spread my feet out easily and felt really stable at address. If you’re a bigger person shoes can be quite heavy but these are so lightweight. The lime green colour won’t be to everyone’s taste. They’re so light which is great for me. They were comfortable for the whole round and you can hardly feel them.

  • 4 out of 5 Grippy and comfortable

    By Trevor Smith

I happily tested these for TG as part of the fourball. They hardly weigh a thing and you feel it when you go to put them on. They were easy to get on and off and I enjoyed the slightly wider fit. The grip was excellent from the studs on the bottom. I felt nice and solid over the ball on the tee and walking up and down hills on the course. I’ve been thinking about getting spikeless shoes for a while but wasn’t sure about grip on offer. However, these are really grippy and comfortable so I’m glad I tried them.
