2012 REVIEW

Colin: After the initial few weeks of testing I picked these out as my favourite because of the sporty styling and the fact that they looked great with both shorts and trousers. Absolutely nothing happened over the winter months that caused me to change my mind on that score. They felt as though I was wearing trainers in terms of comfort and I also thought they were by far the best on test in terms of grip and stability in wetter weather. They were completely watertight as well. In terms of durability, they were excellent and the leather stayed nice and supple, particularly over the toes, where I hate to see the leather ruffling and cracking. These are top notch, and for my next pair of shoes Puma will be the first brand I will look at.

2011 REVIEW

Tested: Summer 2011
Testing panel:
Christopher Alexander – 24 HCP
– Prioritises comfort and value when buying shoes.
Johnny Stanco – 14 HCP – Style and performance are two important criteria.
Colin Blair – 14 HCP – This keen player needs durability and performance.

Chris: He loved the clean, sleek design, the discreet branding on the side and the two individual carry bags (one for each shoe). In terms of performance they delivered for him as well and he said they were undoubtedly some of the best shoes he has ever worn on the course. The only downside was the price, which he felt was a bit on the steep side.

Johnny: These impressed straight away with a really stylish look and Johnny also insisted he would be a fan of these in all black as well during the winter months. He said they were excellent in the rain and in terms of comfort and performance were among the best on test for him.

Colin: In terms of performance Colin rated these pretty highly stating they were extremely comfortable from the first minute he put them on and gave him good grip and traction on the course. As for the looks, he liked the shape of the shoe but admitted they were very plain, particularly for adidas shoes which he said were usually very sporty. He said the leather was very soft and supple but was worried that because they were all white they would be very difficult to keep pristine for long. Overall though he was impressed with the shoes.

PUMA officially completed the acquisition of Cobra late last year and their commitment to producing top quality gear this year is clear. The Cell Fusion shoes are firm favourite with TG Equipment Editor Dave Connor. The heel and toe areas feature hexagonal iCell technology which adds more comfort and stability.
