What we say...
Tech:
A cast 8620 carbon steel head. CNC Milled grooves ensure high levels of spin. A thicker blade top and higher CG delivers high levels of control.
Our verdict:
It’s possible to tell how serious brands are about the wedge market by how many options they offer. And Yonex with their 3 loft options would probably openly admit the wedge market isn’t the focus of their attention right now. In a test where we compared the Yonex against the absolute best on the market, we saw how others by investing in spin grooves, CNC milling , super soft materials, various bounce/grind options and high spin shafts have the edge over the WS-2.
Bottom line:
Not our favourite wedge by any chalk. The higher lofts especially have rounder heads than our testers really liked. We feel you’re much more likely to buy one if you own a set of Yonex irons, making them less of a serious consideration in the general wedge market.
