Cons
The Z TP didn’t quite perform when it came to escaping bunkers, while the limited bounce and loft options might not appeal to all.
What we say...
Only one club on the wedges test scored a maximum in the control and the feel stakes…Every single tester gave the TaylorMade Z TP five out of five in both categories; an impressive statistic considering the calibre of the other wedges on show. The Z TP features Z Grooves (named after the machine that cuts them) which have 10 per cent more volume than previous Y grooves, which helps give the wedge more stopping power. Dan noted a fantastically impressive level of control on full-shots, peppering targets with alarming regularity – he also thought the classic teardrop shape was a winner.
The smoked finish also helps to reduce glare – an important quality on the occasional bright and sunny day! As for the amateur testers, 19-handicapper Dave found the club light but reassuringly solid in his hands, while Chris rated this as his best on test. It’s worth noting, too, that the C-Grind sole, which is available on some lofts, makes the club even more playable. It sits tight to the turf and when the face is opened up it is great for those exacting flop shots. The only two criticisms we had of the Z TP was that it didn’t quite perform when it came to escaping the bunkers while the limited bounce and loft options might not appeal to all.

Once again a great addition to my bag thanks to Taylor Made. After a crazy amount of hype it was clear that this was the club for me, and boy is this true. The wedge offers a solid feel and connection providing plenty of spin and accuracy. As such a versatile club im always looking for an excuse to break out the wedge.

Bought the 54 and 58 degree on recommendations from everywhere, and I now understand what all the rave is about. Stops the ball dead, great feel and accuracy and so easy to play from any lie. Huge confidence booster, handicap going the right way and the comments from other players makes them worth every single penny!! 28 handicapper
