What we say...
The PXG 0311 Sugar Daddy II combines precision weighting technology with a 100% CNC Milled head to create golfs most precise wedge.
To make the 0311 Sugar Daddy II one of the best golf wedges, PXG took inspiration from putters.
Ever since Scotty Cameron first put CNC Milled putters on a pedestal back in 1992, milling has been seen as the ultimate way to make the perfect putter. The major benefit of using a computer to machine golf clubs is removing the inconsistency of hand finishing, so tolerances are tighter and golfers get a product that’s exactly the same from piece-to-piece-to-piece.
It’s those extreme levels of consistency that led PXG to creating the games first 100% CNC Milled wedges back in 2017. The idea was originally spurned by former PGA Tour winner, turned PXG club designer and engineer Mike Nicolette. As it was his eyes that were distracted by how, when updating his cast wedges, the heads always appeared fractionally different. Which made it impossible to get exactly the same shape and profile, even though the models bore the same name.
Since their inception PXG’s 0311 CNC Milled wedges have been a big hit with their star studded tour staff. And part of the reason is no matter how many wedges the best players in the world get through in a season, every PXG head is exactly the same as the players previous favourite. And for the brand there’s the added benefit of not needing to grind soles by hand, which is both time consuming and difficult to replicate.
100% CNC Milled wedges are expensive to produce though. Each head needs to be forged three times (which requires three expensive toolings for each individual loft). And thanks to a wedge being a very complex shape each head spends a ton of time on the CNC Mill.
It means for many golfers 100% CNC Milled wedges will always be way outside their price bracket. But for those who can afford them and players wanting the ultimate wedge, just like the best CNC Milled putters in the world, there’s no more precise wedge out there.

What you need to know about the PXG 0311 Sugar Daddy II Milled wedges
Full face grooves
Full face grooves are nothing new when it comes to wedges, what’s different about PXG’s new Sugar Daddy II wedges though is having full face grooves running across all lofts within the family. Competitor models like the TaylorMade Hi-Toe often use full length face grooves in the sand and lob wedge lofts which are more typically hit from longer grass and sand.
PXG say their research has shown the idea increases shot-to-shot consistency and the grooves come into play more often than golfers think especially when hitting softer landing approach shots.
Higher toe performance
Compared to the previous model the Sugar Daddy II also has a slightly higher toe shape. PXG say the idea improves MOI forgiveness, so the new model is now a more forgiving wedge option.
The higher mass also positions the centre of gravity (which lies in the centre of the face) more in-line with open face shots, so golfers get more consistent results, when hitting very delicate greenside shots. The slightly larger profile adds additional confidence at address.
Precision weighting and proper fitting
PXG’s 0311 Gen4 irons have hit a home run with golfers, as thanks to the Precision Weighting port in the back of the head, they give every player the opportunity to experience longer and shorter shafts and lighter and heavier clubs. PXG say this not only optimizes speed and distance performance but also helps consistency too. It’s not that surprising then PXG have built the same Precision Weighting tech into the new Sugar Daddy II wedges.
We love the idea because, thanks to the weight being positioned directly behind the centre of the face, switching lengths and changing weights doesn’t mean dragging the centre of gravity away from the centre of the face, which can lead to a drop in feel, accuracy and consistency. What it does mean is that golfers can alter the weight and/or the length of their wedges, which isn’t always an option with all wedge brands.
Forged feel
PXG believe in the feel and sound benefits of forging wedges and irons. The 0311’s are forged three times from 8620 carbon steel, which the company say is at the stronger end of materials that are forgeable. It’s the same material TaylorMade use for casting for their MG-3 wedges. It means golfers get an excellent combination of feel and sound, but also good durability in preventing dings, dents and scratches.
Choose your grind
The Sugar Daddy II wedges come in two sole grind options. The BP is designed for lush turf conditions and golfers with steeper angles of attack (PXG say typically players who are steep with irons will be steep with wedges too). There’s a wider sole, with more bounce and a slight grind taper from heel to toe across the sole. PXG say the model is good for all sorts of shots around the green and it’s slightly easier to use from sand (than the C-Grind) as the pivot point of the sole is further from the face.
The C-Grind is better from firmer turf conditions, and works well for shallower attack angle players, which tends to be more skilled players. Expect an aggressively tapered sole shape with lots of toe and heel relief, less bounce (and a shallower pivot point) and a narrower sole width than the BP grind.
On the edge
Designing face grooves is a really delicate balance between side wall angle and the radius at the mouth where the groove meets the face. PXG say they’ve experimented with tons of combinations of groove make-ups and they’ve settled on the Sugar Daddy’s set-up because thanks to the accuracy and consistency of their precision CNC Milling processes they can live right on the edge of USGA rules. It means golfers should expect maximum spin and control performance from the Sugar Daddy II’s.
Verdict: PXG 0311 Sugar Daddy II Milled wedges
Yes, PXG’s 0311 wedges are outrageously expensive, but thanks to being 100% CNC Milled, just like a premium putter, they are the most accurate and precise wedges money can buy.
PXG might still be a young company, but their wedge shaping from day one has always been second to none. We love the straight leading edge and how the club sits at address, the classy satin finish is also as simple as they come.
You will need to accept full face grooves across all lofts, which for some will be unpalatable, but that’s how PXG have set the family up. So long as you can the 0311 was our 5th highest spinning wedge (9438 RPM), and hit shots into an area 24% tighter than our best 2023 wedge test average.
But the real sell that’s head and shoulders above the competition for making such a sizeable investment, is the ability to go lighter, heavier, longer or shorter all without changing the centre of gravity, which no other brand can compete with right now.
