What we say...

It’s fair to say that wedges have tended to be a weak spot of Ping’s product range. There are plenty of golfers who wouldn’t dream of using any other brand of irons but have always shopped elsewhere for clubs to use from 100 yards in. The typical ping wedge has a reputation for being a little clumsy, certainly compared to its more popular rivals.

But these new Tour wedges look sure to change all that. They look good, feel sensational and, in the opinion of our testers, are almost certainly the best Ping wedges ever.

Their cosmetics are actually rather un-Ping-like, being much shinier and curvier than your typical angular, industrial-looking Ping iron. We loved the contrast between the curved leading edge of the sand wedge – great for getting under the ball in bunkers and from tight lies – and much the straighter one of the gap wedge – where accuracy is more important.

Most of all, we were hugely impressed by the soft, solid feel at impact, both around the green and on full shots. This may be due to the cavity insert that the wedges borrow from Ping’s terrifically successful current irons, the G2s and S59s, and it helped make these wedges some of the most user-friendly in the test.

Everyone who’s tried these wedges seems to rave about them. They look good, feel great and work a treat. And players who rarely, if ever, experienced backspin are now talking about ‘chew’ and ‘suck’ like they were old friends. Ping have done the business here.

Lovely looking wedge with great stop on the greens giving you great confidence over the shot. I changed to these wedges this year and not looked back. Their spin control with a full or half shot is excellent. Sits perfectly on the turf allowing a crisp strike and high flight to the target. I have three wedges 50deg, 54 deg and 60 deg in my bag and would not change for anything else.
