What we say...

Tech:

A slightly rounder leading edge allows the wedge to be open or closed whilst aiming at the target. Grain Flow Forging maintains a consistent grain flow through the neck and hosel improving feel. Visible sole grinds mean versatility from any lie. A CNC Milled face and grooves are designed to maximise spin from both full and partial shots.

Our verdict:

Wedges like putters are really personal pieces of kit so while some golfers will love the S5’s rounder leading edge others will be put off by it. Our testers had mixed feelings about it but at the end of the day it’s personal preference and if we put our own views aside the S5 is a very solid short game option, which feel great. Spin wise on full shots it put in an above average performance for all testers and we particularly liked the real simple grind set up and satin finish we thought gave the wedge a real premium look.

Bottom line:

There’s a lot to like about the S5, yes its got a slightly larger profile and rounder leading edge which we reckon will make it attractive to a slightly smaller audience. But there’s no doubting it’s got the ability to help get you up and down from the toughest lies consistently.
