What we say...
Tech:
Wedges designed specifically to match the JPX 900 Hot Metal irons. The cavity back offers a degree of playability you won’t find with classic blade wedges. A softer X30 steel ensures great feel, and the CNC milled faces offer predictable consistency and maximum spin.
Our verdict:
Ever noticed how specialist wedges more often than not come as bladed head designs? The lack of a cavity back means some golfers find them daunting, especially if they play game improvement irons. Producing a cavity back wedge featuring the same levels of CNC face milling and groove tech as a set of irons is a sound idea, and if it means a smoother flow of head shapes from your irons then they come into their own. The JPX’s inevitably have bigger heads and thicker top edges than any other wedge we tested, but even at a stronger loft (50deg where other test samples were 52deg) it span 33% of full shots over 10K rpm, which is seriously impressive.
Bottom line:
We see the JPX 900 much more as an acquired taste, one for those buying a set of JPX 900 irons. If you’re a big cavity back wedge fan though, they are a very good option and worth looking at much more closely. The only drawback we see is there’s only 3 lofts available, which limits your choices for what would be a good option for a lot of club golfers from sand, fairway and rough.
