Cleveland 588 RTX 2.0

  • At a glance

  • TG Rating 5 out of 5
  • Owner Rating 5 out of 5
  • Pros

More spin, more control, more loft/bounce options and an improved fitting package.

  • Cons

    Nothing not to like here.

What we say...

Tech:

Rotex face technology offers 15% sharper grooves. New micro-milled grooves give the roughest face surface allowed by the USGA.  Low, mid and full bounce options offer tons of versatility to fit your own game.

Our verdict:

Fairplay to Cleveland for going all in on the shot-stopping tech. The milled face, sharper grooves and micro etching performed beautifully on the launch monitor and golf course. There’s no doubt the 588 is a tip-top wedge, we particularly liked how the Black Satin finish highlights the face tech and enhances focus at address. The sole width on the two lofts we tested (52deg and 58deg) was narrower than some which we felt was spot on for promoting an aggressive attack and nipping shots cleanly. But at the same time was not too thin to dig excessively in sand or on squelchy turf.

Bottom line:

Not the smallest headed wedge which is absolutely not a criticism, its confidence inspiring, versatile and feels really solid. Of course the 588 also comes from a superb wedge pedigree too.

Cleveland Wedges User Reviews

  • 5 out of 5 Stunning looks and sceptical performance

    By Brian Tracy

Beautiful looking wedges, very sleek, nothing flashy about the face, or the back. Nicely milled face that isn't too in your face either. I was fitted for them and work heartily recommend Studley Wood fitting as you really get a thorough treatment, finding out what you currently do and what would suit you. Expect changes as the fitters really know their game and will learn your game quickly.

  • 5 out of 5 Best wedges to date!

Just wanted to start by thank TG and Cleveland for a wonderful fitting opportunity last week! Onto the wedge, by far the best I have tried and come across. The feel off the face is unbelievable, giving the feel of a forged MB but withiut the forged material. For me the spin numbers, matched with the KBS wedge shaft were perfect too. I was getting the distances i wanted, with an added extra wedge to fill the 25 yard gap I had, but gaining more feel. It's a soft feel of the face but at the same time you can feel the grip and bite of the groove as laser milled tech on the face. The look of the club is gorgeous, simple but elegant. It looks a classy club, and doesn't dissappoint once in your hands. The various loft, bounce and lie options too make this wedge for me one of the most adaptable and individual wedges on the market. With 2 different finishes (Tour Satin and Tour Black), 2 different heads (Blade and Cavity) and 3 different sole grinds there is a perfect wedge for every golfer. Can't recommend the fitting or the wedges enough.
