Pros
Good spin, great carry and a lovely finish.
What we say...
Callaway’s new wedge for 2010 was one of the clubs that immediately caught the eye of the test team. Both the chrome and dark vintage finishes were sleek and good looking, much like the successful X-Forged model.
Featuring the famous Mack Daddy grooves, the Jaws wedges have been designed to optimise spin and stop-ability. And pro tester Tom achieved impressive backspin stats with his full shots. He also noted how the aggressive grooves “ripped” the ball a little while the nice C-grind options allowed our man to play that gorgeous flop shot loved by better players and hackers alike.
Tony loved the feel of the wedge as well as the consistency of strike. Callaway’s Triple Net Forging Process, used to construct the club, helps to improve the consistency of construction.
John was perhaps the only tester who didn’t take to it as well, saying he felt it wasn’t as well balanced through the swing as some others. Saying that, he did score 4/5 on the 65-yard test and also gave it an impressive 4.5 rating for the ‘around the green’ part of the test.
Chris felt both the chrome and vintage finishes made the head look pretty sizeable, which inspired confidence at address. He wasn’t immediately keen on the funky graphics on the back of the clubhead but the performance of the wedge soon helped to sway him into the opinion that this wedge was a cracker.
