What we say...
Is this the ideal package set to improve your golf game? Join me as I review the Stix Perform Package set and find out why this may be the best beginner’s club set money can buy and which club, in particular, I fell in love with!
It is designed for golfers who don’t want to break the bank on a new set but also want a good quality product that can perform time after time. Not only is this one of the best golf club sets but also one of the best value-for-money sets on the market. As Stix say this golf set is perfect for 99% of golfers and I believe that! They aren’t trying to break into the top end of the market where a small number of golfers need very specific qualities built into their golf clubs. Stix have developed a golf set perfect for your casual golfer whether you’re needing a beginner package set or an intermediate golfer needing an upgrade to take your game to the next level, this is it, I play off of six and would happily game this set for the price you pay.
Built for forgiveness this Stix set is both confidence-inspiring and playable, behind the ball from driver to putter the clubs look and feel super premium. Here in the UK, the set is just over £1000 but for any of you in the US the set comes in at less than $1000, yes you heard that correctly, these clubs will set you back just $999 which for 12 clubs, stand bag, and headcovers is an absolute steal. The Perform set certainly sits well in the market, it’s not overpriced and it isn’t so cheap you question the quality of the product. The Stix Golf Perform Set is made up of 12 clubs from the driver through to the putter. The set comprises a driver, 3-wood, 4 hybrid, 6-iron through to pitching wedge, three wedges, 52°, 56°, and 60°, and a putter.

Initial thoughts
Out of the box, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of everything. I’d heard a lot about them but until you’re actually holding a product yourself you really have no idea. For the money you pay I was happy to see how good the bag was, I think it would happily compete with some of the best stand bags on the market. In hand, the clubs felt solid and I love the black finish but sadly may cause a slight issue which I will get onto later.
The grips aren’t branded but felt quality and solid when swinging. The putter grip was also impressive, it is slightly larger, it’s similar to a SuperStroke 3.0 Putter Grip in size. The set also comes with four headcovers for the woods and putter are of similar quality to the set. Having not gamed this set for more than six or seven rounds it’s hard to tell what the wear and tear on grips and shafts will be like over time but I know in the short while I have used the clubs the signs are good that it’s built to last.
Something to note which you may have already seen, the set does mark easy! From what I’ve seen they have improved the finish from their earlier sets. Still, it will be an issue with any black finish over time, I’ve had multiple sets of black wedges from different brands, and the finish all but fades away after a number of trips to the sand! The finish may fade but you can be reassured that the performance will not. The only lasting damage I noticed after a few rounds was painted on the iron faces, and over time the wedges will follow particularly the sand wedge which I have used a few times now and can only just see the wear marks coming through.
The set itself
Driver
Would it not make sense to start with the standout club and the one I fell in love with? I think so! The driver was so good I’d happily buy it on its own. It was by far the shining star of this Perform set, I’d read and heard from a few sources that the driver was good but didn’t expect the results I got. I was skeptical as you would be with a driver from a package set but was pleasantly surprised by what I saw on the course.
Behind the ball, the club looked like many of the premium offerings on the market. A simple and minimalist look to the confidence-inspiring 460cc head. The set I had came with stiff shafts which in the driver felt solid, it performed well and the shaft and titanium head combo delivered a high-piercing ball flight with little spin.
Off the tee, I would say that this would give my current TaylorMade Stealth driver a run for its money! Yes, the Stealth is built to my spec but the Stix Perform driver was offering a distance that could quite easily rival my $500 current gamer. With the teardrop shape and high level of forgiveness, this club is great for ranging abilities. I often hit the ball high with a slight fade but was producing a high draw and even out the heel or toe the club was able to maintain distance rather well.
Fairway woods
The top end of the bag is full of uber-forgiving woods with confidence-inspiring heads and the three wood is just that. The fairway wood was similar to the driver in its performance and look. On the tee and from the fairway I found the club picked the ball off the turf really well thanks to the profile of the club. It is not my preference but the head is deep and has a large face so on the ground it made the ball look small which I’m not a fan of, but as a low handicap golfer this is not aimed at me and the club is full of forgiveness which is key for it’s target golfer!
Hybrid
As a fan of longer irons, I don’t often use a hybrid, but I was a big fan of this and I found it worked very well. Like the rest of the woods, the hybrid is confidence-inspiring and great for its target golfer aiming for forgiveness and a little extra distance. This is a great replacement for a four or five iron at the top of the bag.
Irons
Not being used to graphite shafts myself, the heads felt rather heavy which took some getting used to. With a huge sweet spot and hot face, the irons felt really solid. The lofts are a little strong compared to my set so I had to take an iron less on each shot. Although the lofts are strong they still flew well in the air and carried a long way which was nice to see. The iron heads aren’t too big with any offset at all, the most is 11mm, this makes the clubs perfect for a broader range of golfers as I’m off a 6 handicap and would happily game these with the right shaft set up!
They look similar to many of the premium mid-handicap irons, but what I was not expecting was how easy they were to launch. The high flight will appeal to a wide range of golfers, and so will the simple cavity back design which allows for plenty of distance.
Wedges
There is a simple pleasure I find in short game, my love for a great wedge is much higher than I think I’ve ever admitted. The Stix wedges weren’t quite as good as the driver but they were certainly a close second. When I got them out of the bag they looked like a club I’d seen before, not to name names but a similar style to some SM8 wedges I once had a few years back.
The problem with some package sets is the lack of clubs at the bottom of the bag, which for most beginners is fine as they’d substitute a wedge for a hybrid quite happily. So, it was refreshing to see a full set of wedges in a nice selection of lofts, with the bounce and grinds to match well with each club. Being able to play a full range of shots around the green is not often a priority when starting out in the game, but what this set does is it allows you to at least practice it. Designed for a variety of shots, around the green, in the fairway, or out of the bunker. Whilst I will admit they’re not as good as some premium options on the market they certainly did the job for a package set wedge.
Putter
The mallet putter is certainly a bizarre shape, it has a bladed front with a flat bottom. Initially, I was thrown off but actually grew to love it! As far as performance goes I have no complaints, off the face it felt great, the alignment is simple, and over short putts, I was confident I would hole out from inside 8ft. However it was cumbersome compared to my usual putter, the milled head and light shaft combo also took some getting used to.
Final verdict
Where do I start? The Stix Perform club set is superb! This is a great set for beginners and intermediate players who want a quality set to help them improve their game and best of all, it is built to last, this set will see you through plenty of years on the golf course with room to add extra clubs when the time comes. The set is still nearly $1000 but for what you’re getting in return I can assure you this will be money well spent. For a set of similar quality from what we would call a bigger named brand you’d expect to be paying double if not triple the price of this Stix set. I love the fact the set has the performance to back the cost up. I had a smile on my face the whole time I was playing with the clubs. Whether you want to upgrade from an old hand-me-down set or are just starting I think for sure this is a worthwhile investment into your game.
Also consider
If you’re a fan of the Stix Perform set but it’s slightly more than you would like to pay of isn’t quite to your taste then, there are many cheaper options available. The MacGregor CG400 is a more budget-friendly option, the quality of the set is not as good but will still do the job for more than half of the price. If a similar high-quality alternative is what you’re after then the TaylorMade RBZ Speedlite package set is a good choice.
