Today’s Golfer Hybrid Test 2011
Tested: July 2011
Testing panel:
Chris Ryan (Belfry Pro)
Leon Iacono (HCP 4)
David Connor (HCP 10)
Ben Miles (HCP 17)
Both Dave and Chris said this was one of the best all-rounders on test as it just did everything well. Chris said it ticked a lot of boxes by being a good size and a nice weight and he reckoned it would appeal to a very broad spectrum of players – although if it had one weakness he thought the ball fl ight would be a little high to use regularly off the tee. Ben also rated this highly across the board but Leon wasn’t as big a fan, saying it felt too light with nothing in particular jumping out at him.
Distance: 3.1
Dispersion: 4.1
Looks: 3.6
Feel: 3.5

Yonex make really solid equipment at a very affordable price, and as an established name in the industry you can always be sure of what you’re getting. First impressions of the new VMS hybrids are certainly favourable. They feature progressive offset to provide game-improvers with hope of banishing the round-wrecking slice, while the thin face ensures greater distance and forgiveness. The specially-designed shaft is impressively light while the thin-wall technology means more weight placed near the head for improved swing speeds and length.
