TaylorMade RBZ Hybrid Review

I love a long iron when I’m playing well but TaylorMade’s RBZ hybrid might just alter my view.

The high MOI hybrid was, as expected, forgiving. I’ve often found that offset hybrids simply don’t suit my ‘happy hooker’ game and although the RBZ is aimed at all golfers, it didn’t point straight left at address, something which I absolutely loved.

Happily TaylorMade have also incorporated the technology that makes the RBZ fairway wood insanely long into the new hybrid design too. The secret comes in the form of the Speed Pocket in the sole behind the face – essentially it offers more “boom” off the face for more distance and I definitely found a sizeable increase on this 4-iron equivalent.

TaylorMade’s engineers have also broken the centre of gravity trend of recent years by moving it forward but keeping it low, maintaining the towering trajectory, but with even more distance.

The look of the club at address screams “hit me and hit me hard” – and in truth, it’s tough to miss with this. It also performed better from the tee and fairly deep rough than some hybrids.

Finally, if you’re worried about the white club looking dirty, breathe easy. We tested it in mixed conditions and yes, it got muddy, but it was easily cleaned.
