What we say...
With TaylorMade’s expertise in hybrids it was no surprise the new Taylormade Rescue 09 club secured high marks for looks, rough and forgiveness. Roger found it especially easy to hit and get in the air and David liked the feedback and high launch he achieved. It performed respectably in the distance category as well and Chris achieved a nice ball flight – even from the rough, where he thought it performed better. However, like the Diablo, dispersion cost the Burner an award with Jon and Chris a little wayward with it.

2010 Review:
TaylorMade’s original Rescue, launched in 1999, can legitimately claim to be the daddy of modernday hybrids, its release having signalled their widespread use not only on Tour, but in many amateur bags as well. And with so much history and expertise in this area, it is perhaps no surprise to see a TaylorMade one-two in the most comprehensive hybrids test ever!
The Rescue 09 takes principles of versatility from the original and blends this with state-of-the-art technology for more power and forgiveness. The tidy, compact head appealed to all of our testers while the ultra-thin wall technology means more weight could be distributed where required to give this club extra forgiveness and a high launch. Chris admitted there wasn’t a single thing he didn’t like. This was backed up in excellent distance and dispersion stats not only for him but for each of the testing panel. Mark said this was particularly impressive from the rough and did everything he would ever want a rescue club to do while pro James admitted this would be one of his top recommendations for anyone who struggles to get the ball up. David also achieved a high ball flight with this, feeling he’d be confident attacking even the shallowest of greens from 200- plus yards out. The low-friction sole was a winner with our testing team but what really impressed them was the confidence over every single shot – something that is vital whatever level of golf you play. This result shows it is no coincidence that this is one of the best-selling hybrids on the market!
