What we say...
Tech:
Designed to offer a better alternative to long irons. The wide body design launches shots higher and faster from any turf conditions, with added forgiveness when shots are struck off centre.
Our verdict:
MD Golf have built their name over the years on creating affordably priced golf gear that performs in the hands of the club golfer, so it’s no surprise the STR 20‘s well equipped to deal with the competition. Because the head’s quite wide from front to back its fits nicely in the wide body category and was much more suited to Simon’s sweeping swing (fairway wood style), as it flighted shots on a high forgiving flight. We can’t say its pulled up any trees in terms of performance (slightly down on ball speed and carry distance compared to the test average) but it was really good fun and easy to use. Which if you’re the type of mid-handicap golfer who plays once a week for fun, you’re highly likely to enjoy pulling it from the bag.
Bottom line:
The price for an MD Golf hybrid like most other manufacturers has gone up. The Kuro Kage shaft is fantastic and can be found in a number of other premium hybrids. Overall a good looking solid performing proposition.
