2013 Hybrids Test

James noticed how short the shaft felt in the 22˚ loft (just 39.25 inches) and also how it sat a little closed at address. He liked the glossy black finish. The clubface itself is small from top to bottom, but went well out of the longer grass as a result. Distance was below average for all three testers, even compared with other 22˚ lofts on test. Matt said the club felt really well balanced and, unlike Antony, liked the combination of the blue and black on the sole, shaft and clubhead.

Matt also liked the logo on the crown, which gave him a simple reference for the sweetspot, but got plenty of glare from the glossy finish when hitting in the sun. Generally Matt found this solid enough from the centre and reasonably forgiving. Antony also found it easy to align and commended the finish on the sole. He noticed a reasonably high flight that held its line on all but the worst of hits.

The highly-polished PVD-plated sole (Particle Vapour Displacement is a high-powered vacuum that pulls any moisture out of the material and replaces it with this black finish) is said to create less friction when playing from the fairway, minimising any loss of clubhead speed.

The hybrids also ensure a high ball flight and a soft landing to match the irons. A neat, compact and traditional head design offers maximum distance and power from a two-piece cup face. All of the hybrids are fitted with a UST Mamiya V2 graphite shaft and grip.
