What we say...

Cobra’s 2023 King TEC is a premium hybrid aimed at better players, with a new material, an A.I-designed face and a sleeker profile for more distance, improved control and enhanced customization.

The latest generation of Cobra’s King TEC Hybrid targets 0-15 handicappers looking for a rescue club that can be used from the tee and on longer approach shots. It provides exceptional versatility from a variety of lies and is among the best hybrids 2023.

The new hybrid comes in five adjustable lofts and is designed to perfectly complement Cobra’s family of better-player King irons (Tour, CB, MB, Forged Tec, and Forged Tec X).

It carries over several key pieces of tech from the 2021 King Tec hybrid, including the three movable sole weights (2 x 12g and a 2g), Cobra’s renowned adjustable Myfly hosel (+/-1.5º), the carbon fiber crown and the 17-4 SS body.

But there’s a host of new technology and a sleek new look. Let’s get into the full review.

The standout tech in the 2023 King Tec is the H.O.T Face and Pwrshell, which can also be found in Cobra’s AeroJet driver.

The Cobra King TEC hybrid face.

Developed using artificial intelligence, H.O.T. Face (Highly Optimized Topology) features multiple zones with optimized thicknesses that increase ball speed and produce more efficient spin across a larger area of the clubface for more consistent and reliable distances.

Pwrshell features a thin, highly flexible forged ST-118 steel insert that creates a larger sweetspot, which Cobra say provides faster ball speeds and higher launch on shots hit away from the center.

Then there’s a carbon crown, which weighs in at just four grams and allows for more weight to be repositioned low and back within the clubhead for a lower CG and improved launch and increased club speed.

It also has a significantly more refined look when compared to the 2021 model. There has been a squaring of the area where the toe meets the face, but a more rounded toe overall. The crown is also more rounded, while the blade length has been shortened and there’s less offset, all of which should prove more appealing to the eye of a better player.

How the Cobra King TEC hybrid compares to its 2021 predecessor.

Cobra’s adjustable weighting sees two 12g weights in the front of the sole and a 2g weight in the back, but the weights can be switched to encourage different ball flights. Putting the two 12g weights in the back/heel will help create a draw-biased flight, having them in the back/toe will aid a fade-biased flight, and keeping them in the clubhead’s front heel/toe areas will encourage a neutral flight.

Cobra do offer additional weights (2g, 10g, 14g) through their custom shop. Combined with the Myfly adjustable hosel, which allows for loft adjustments of +/- 1.5º, will enable players to precisely tune their ideal launch and spin characteristics.

What Cobra say about the King Tec Hybrid

“Bringing Cobra’s H.O.T. Face technology to the hybrid category is a game changer,” said Jose Miraflor, Vice President, Marketing & Product Architecture, Cobra Golf.

“The additional ball speed and forgiveness make the King Tec our most advanced hybrid to date.”
