What we say...

It’s clear this club has been designed with control in mind. The shaft is one of the shortest in our test and that means you really can create the type of golf shots you want more easily.

This is a comfortable club to use. It’s like a pair of well-worn slippers you’ve found at the back of the cupboard. You put them on and you feel like they’ve never been away. This Hogan hybrid takes no time to get used to.

The weighty head slides a ball away with little need for extra swing power and the yardages are as consistent as you would expect from any tour-standard Hogan equipment.

The cosmetics are simple but that’s a good thing. Any club worthy of the Hogan name need to look good. That’s no easy task with a hybrid wood, but it has been achieved with the CFT. That dark blue paint constrasts superbily with the brushed steel face and top edge. This clun should attract many admirers.

Verdict: “A robust, easy-to-control utility wood that is the perfect alternative to a 3 or 4 iron. Simple but striking cosmetics, too.”

Price: £80 (steel) £100 (graphite)
