What we say...

Technology: Features a titanium body attached to a high-density steel sole for faster ball speeds. Two slots on the sole and crown help boost ball speed on off-centre hits.

Looks: The head shape is quite rounded. Your eye is immediately drawn to the large slot in the crown, but you soon forget it after a few shots. My 23-degree club did sit open at address and when you try and square it up by leaning the shaft towards the target the leading edge becomes quite prominent, reducing the margin for error from tight lies.

Feel/sound: Similar to the Tight Lies fairway wood, the feel off the face at impact is quite hard with not much feedback. This meant there was little to determine good strikes from bad. That said, it was difficult to hit a really bad shot.

Forgiveness: Though good strikes didn’t feel overly hot, the carry numbers on the monitor were impressive. Shots I didn’t get hold of still held their line and only lost a few yards.

Performance: Adams say its hybrids are easy to hit and there’s no doubt that distance is easy to come by. Being able to adjust the loft and therefore the flight really helps get the best from it, too. There are softer-feeling hybrids out there and the fact it sits open at address won’t help your slice. But what will please everyone is the forgiveness and distance they’ll get from the sweetspot and on strikes away from it, too.
