What we say...

The Yes! Olivia mallet putter won last year’s TG putter test; this year we were less keen on the centre-shafted Carolyne.

The C-shaped grooves still work and help to get putts rolling smoothly across the green, but the Carolyne’s head didn’t quite get us going in the way others did.

No alignment or sight line means you rely solely on addressing putts from the neck of the putter, which, for a novice, can be inconsistent. We still like the theory, just make sure you get a design you really like.

Has an outsized head for more weight and forgiveness. Standard, belly and long shafts available.

    Got a Carolyne Broom Putter for Christmas (Thanks Sis) to accompany my Ping C10 Broom Putter. At first this putter took some getting used to, as mentioned above no sightline or alignment aids make the putter difficult to address and in my case get square. A bit of Engineering with a Pencil Line and later some black tape and tip-ex soon corrected this problem for me. Next thing I found was on my local courses greens I putted very poorly, yet on another course and courses in Portugal I putted very well. I quickly concluded this putter works best and short fast paced greens where a gentle swing allows the club to work at it best. When you start having to hit the ball firmly I think the technology of the grooves gets lost and you still get the same old, jumps, bobbles and skids, plus inconsistant out of the middle hits.
