There are many things a club golfer will dream of. For some it will be making a hole in one, for others it is to step onto the hallowed turf of the Old Course. Some dream simply of owning a Scotty Cameron putter.

Ever since 1992, Cameron has been dedicated to producing the most beautiful putters in the world – and few can argue with his success. His newest creation is the Scotty Cameron Select line, which features a stunning new black mist finish and emphasises the famous three-dot Cameron logo.

There is no doubt they are works of art – but the Scotty Cameron putter franchise hasn’t been built on looks alone. To see how the new Select and Select GoLo lines stacked up, we tested them on the lightning fast greens at The Belfry’s Brabazon course.

My personal preference for feel is soft but without compromising on a fast speed off the face. This is a difficult combination to achieve and why I have always got on better with insert putters. Fans of Scotty Cameron will know that he doesn’t do inserts – certainly not for a good number of years (so if you have a Cameron putter with an insert, it will be worth a pretty penny now).

But the feel of the new Studio line is as soft and as crisp as any putter I’ve hit. It allowed me to make a smooth stroke rather than hitting at the ball and despite a good speed off the face there was no fear of it jumping too quickly. They’ve achieved this insert-like feel thanks to an aggressive milling pattern on the face, which enhances the softness of feel and the sound.

I was sceptical at how much difference this would make. After all, it is still a milled stainless steel face – but for me this delivered the perfect combination of feel and performance. It’s easy to see why owning a ‘Scotty’ putter is on many people’s wish-list.

The new Select putters are dark, bold and mysterious. The are precision milled from billets of stainless steel with Tour-proven deep face milling, meticulously finished in elegant Black Mist, and designed for weight changing and personalization in the Scotty Cameron Custom Shop.

2012 Range

The Select range has more traditional blade designs with five different options: Newport,
Newport 1.5, Newport 2, Newport 2 Notchback and Newport 2.6

The GoLo line features larger, more rounded head shapes and includes the GoLo and the Golo S. Each putter in the range can be customised with heel-toe weighting to match the shaft length or player preference.
