TaylorMade Spider ARC Putter Review: You need to know

Originally designed for the Japanese market, but thanks to Justin Rose finishing runner up at The Masters using one, TaylorMade have made the ARC available to the public. A lightweight aluminium body’s paired with a heavy stainless steel back ring, which TaylorMade says not only increases MOI and forgiveness but also helps with alignment. Expect super soft feel from the surlyn pure roll insert.

READER TEST: TaylorMade Spider putters

TaylorMade Spider ARC Putter Review: We say

The ARC’s a real amalgamation of shapes, lines and colours. The base body shape is triangular, with two long stark sightlines jutting out and there’s plenty of curves thanks to the ARC back ring. It’s got an almost 2-ball look as the central section between the fangs is white. We can’t say any tester loved the wacky head shape, it is way out there. But two testers thought the head was incredibly stable throughout the stroke and boy did we hole some putts with it.

If like Justin Rose you can see past the looks, we reckon it’s more than capable of keeping a putting stroke on the straight and narrow, as TaylorMade admit the MOI (forgiveness) is higher than their popular Spider range.

Do putter face grooves really make a difference?

TaylorMade Spider ARC Putter Review: Verdict

At this price you’ll need to love the ARC to take a punt on it. For us it’s a blend of different alignment and weighting ideas, which like jam and bacon sandwiches are brilliant on their own but should never be combined.
