What we say...
The PXG Battle Ready Putter collection includes nine models. All are CNC Milled and optimised for stability, easy alignment and outstanding consistency.
A choice of putter hosel is much more common today than it was just a few years ago. The type of putter hosel you choose affects toe hang, so the idea of offering putter heads with multiple hosel options makes it possible for any putter head to be fitted to any stroke type, which just wasn’t an option five years ago.
The idea has played a massive role in convincing 65% of tour pro’s to move over and use more forgiving mallet and MOI style putters, where just 10 years ago the number was much more like 75% using less forgiving blades (think Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson, who’ve found great success with slight toe hang high MOI mallets in their hands).
And it’s different hosels that really have unlocked the switch, as more forgiving mallet and MOI style putters can now come with at least a degree of toe hang. Where traditionally most more forgiving putters were face balanced and less suited to arcing strokes.

Although hosel choice is more common amongst putter brands today the origins of the idea can be traced back to 2019 and PXG’s Gen2 family. The idea is part of the reason why we reckon if you’re looking at getting fitted for your next putter, then PXG are a brilliant option to explore.
Today PXG’s current putter line-up has moved on from Gen2 to the Battle Ready Putter Collection, but multiple hosel options remain at the core of each new design as PXG believe in custom fitting everything they make to golfers.
Thanks to all nine of PXG’s new Battle Ready putters coming in four toe hang options, along with six shaft length choices, and because every single one allows you to choose your own perfect headweight within a window of 70g (so you can reduce head weight by 30g or add an additional 40g) it could be well be argued that PXG’s Battle Ready Collection are the most customizable putters on the market right now. Here’s what else you need to know about them.

Pyramid Face Pattern
All PXG putters come with a patented CNC Milled face pattern. PXG say it improves mishit consistency, so ball speed, launch and roll are normalized when putts don’t hit the centre of face, so golfers get improved distance control.

PXG Battle Ready Collection Raptor Putter
RRP: £269
Stock head weight: 365g Double Bend / 375g Heel Shafted / 385g Plumbers Neck / 410g Armlock
Toe hang with Double Bend shaft: 0° – Face Balanced
Toe hang with Heel Shaft hosel: Significant
Toe hang with Plumbers Neck: Mid
Toe hang with Armlock shaft: 0° – Face Balanced
Putters that help golfers improve alignment and stability are on a steep upward popularity curve. The Raptor is PXG’s answer to Odyssey’s Eleven and TaylorMade’s Spider GT, and it’s named after a U.S fighter aircraft. The models prominent sightline stripes make for easy alignment, while four adjustable sole weights enable head weight and bias adjustability.
This mallet-style putter also has a rear tungsten insert, which positions mass deep in the clubhead to optimize the centre of gravity (CG) and deliver ultimate stroke stability.

PXG Battle Ready Collection Gunboat Putter
RRP: £269
Toe hang with Double Bend shaft: 0° – Face Balanced
Toe hang with Plumber’s Neck hosel: Mid
Toe hang with Heel Shaft hosel: Significant
Stock head weight: 365g Double Bend / 375g Heel Shafted / 385g Plumber’s Neck
The Gunboat has been in PXG’s putter line-up for a few generations now, but this new model has a wider extra bold single sightline. Like all PXG putters the head is 100% CNC Milled and for the Battle Ready edition there’s new tungsten weights on the heads perimeter to nudge MOI higher than previous models.
If you prefer a cleaner looking mallet have a look at the Bat Attack, if you want ultimate MOI stability check out the Blackbird.
VERDICT: PXG Battle Ready Collection Gunboat putter
The Gunboat is a big chunky MOI mallet of a putter. Everything about the model is oversized. The head looks big sat behind the ball, the tungsten backweights are butch and the long sightline is exceptionally wide. So if you’re after a cracking no nonsense mallet the Gunboat is well worth exploring.
A model for golfers who don’t need a golf ball width alignment aid (like the fanged Bat Attack or PXG’s One & Done that has a golf ball sized white disc on its back) to frame the ball at address, or highlight the area putts should impact the face.
A reassuring design that will work really well for less confident players and golfers who regularly spray putts across the face, which is more of us than you might first think. In our opinion a sightline this wide offers two benefits. Firstly it really draws attention onto where the putter face is aiming as it’s particularly long and bold, but also because it’s so effective at doing that your eyes are less drawn to the putters size.
A brilliant model for normalizing distances from on and off centre hits, definitely one for those that can see outside of the traditional mallet putter model box.
PXG Battle Ready Collection Blackbird Putter
RRP: £269
Toe hang with Double Bend shaft: 0° Face Balanced
Toe hang with Plumber’s Neck hosel: Mid
Toe hang with Heel Shaft hosel: Significant
Stock head weight: 370g Double Bend / 380g Heel Shafted / 390g Plumber’s Neck / 415g Armlock
The Blackbird is a brand new model for 2021 and it’s the highest MOI putter within PXG’s line-up. The Blackbird is named after a long-range strategic reconnaissance aircraft and it’s head is a brilliant mix of lightweight aluminium body and strategic heavy tungsten weighting.
PXG say the Blackbird has a centre of gravity that’s a full 5mm deeper than the similar sized blackjack, One and Done and Gunboat putters, which means it’s an excellent stability option. Expect bold alignment features and an arrow-like design which promotes accuracy and precision from any distance.
VERDICT: PXG Battle Ready Collection Blackbird putter
Don’t be put off by the initial unwieldy looks of the Blackbird, we certainly weren’t that impressed when we first clocked eyes on its images. Yet when our sample arrived it’s very clear the putter looks much better in reality. A lot of the rear portion of the Blackbird’s head is clad with heavy tungsten weighting, it means the model has the deepest centre of gravity (furthest from the face) of any of the Battle Ready Collection models, so it’s incredibly stable and forgiving.
What we really like about the Blackbird is the tiny face size. Some-how in conjunction with diagonal back shaping it does a great job of focusing full attention on the face and top line of the putter, which means your eyes are not drawn away to the more shaped back of the head. The long sight line is absolutely brilliant for anyone who see’s putting in straighter lines and those who love matching up an alignment line or stripe on their golf ball with something similar on their putter.
Like all of the Battle Ready Collection the ability to weight the Blackbird up or down (down by 30g and up by 40g) and chose the perfect hosel set-up to suit your stroke is a real bonus and something not available from most putter makers.
Personally we love the feel and roll credentials of the Blackbirds CNC Milled head and face especially when it’s combined with a face balanced double bend shaft and a sharp edged SuperStroke Flatso, which is more suited to straighter strokes than the brands Lamkin SinkFit Skinny stock grip.

PXG Battle Ready Collection Hercules Putter
RRP: £269
Stock head weight: 360g Double Bend / 370g Heel Shafted / 380g Plumbers Neck / 405g Armlock
Toe hang with Double Bend shaft: 0° – Face Balanced
Toe hang with Heel Shaft hosel: Significant
Toe hang with Plumbers Neck: Mid
Toe hang with Armlock shaft: 0° – Face Balanced
The Hercules has a mid-mallet size which means it’s a great option for golfers who put a premium on a compact head size, but don’t want to give up off-centre hit forgiveness. The name comes from U.S. military transport aircraft.
Expect a slightly lighter weight than the larger PXG Battle Ready Raptor putter. Two large tungsten sole inserts and two adjustable sole weights enhance stability whilst also allowing a good degree of personalisation. The super clean, traditional back flange and soft flowing toe and heel weights frame the ball at address for intuitive alignment.
PXG Battle Ready Collection Closer Putter
RRP: £269
Toe hang with Double Bend shaft: 0° Face Balanced
Toe hang with Plumber’s Neck hosel: Mid
Toe hang with Heel Shaft hosel: Significant
Stock head weight: 360g Double Bend / 370g Heel Shafted / 380g Plumbers Neck
The Closer is a very simple, easy on the eye wide body blade. A blacked out finish and bold single sightline ensure no distractions at address. Two large tungsten sole weights cover nearly half the sole area which makes this model extremely stable when compared alongside other wide body blade models.
To be able to choose this model in the hosel set-up needed to suit your personal stroke and have plenty chance to choose your own headweight and one of six shaft lengths, demonstrates brilliantly what PXG have brough to the putter arena.
VERDICT: PXG Battle Ready Collection Closer Putter
Stable and blade were two words rarely uttered in the same sentence until recently. PXG’s Battle Ready Collection family of putters has slowly dripped out over the last few months and we love how each model comes with four hosel options. It means golfers can choose whether their putter is face balanced or has toe hang, and whether they want to look at a short slant hosel, plumber neck, armlock, or double-bend shaft, that has no hosel at all.
Other putter brands may be exploring multiple hosel models, but PXG were first to the party. For 2021 PXG has some cracking putter models, but the Closer stands out as it challenges conventional thinking around blades.
The black cosmetics and long single sightline are the height of blade simplicity. But what you don’t expect in a traditional blade putter is two hefty tungsten weights that cover nearly half the sole which naturally improves stability.
PXG Battle Ready Dagger+ Putter
RRP: £269
Stock Head Weight: 370g (Minimum 355g, Maximum 390g)
Toe hang with Centre Shaft: 0° – Face Balanced
Toe hang with Heel Shaft: Significant
The Dagger is a modern take on the time honoured Bullseye and Golden Goose style of putter. The model is named after a small, sword-like military weapon. PXG’s first putter family included a similar traditional blade design, but the brand insist this new model is remastered to improve control and versatility.
We love the two hosel options (centre or heel), which allows golfers to tailor this cracking model to their eye and/or stroke.

PXG Battle Ready Collection Blackjack Putter
RRP: £269
Toe hang with Double Bend shaft: 0° Face Balanced
Toe hang with Plumber’s Neck hosel: Mid
Toe hang with Heel Shaft hosel: Significant
Toe hang with Centre Shaft: 0° Face Balanced
Stock head weight: 360g Double Bend / 360g Centre Shaft / 370g Heel Shafted / 380g Plumbers Neck / 405g Armlock
The Blackjack has a very compact head size for this style of mallet. But because the heads made from lightweight aircraft grade aluminium and teamed with a heavy tungsten back/perimeter weight it’s actually very stable for its size.
We like how there’s lots of straight edges and a super simple single sightline which looks great sat behind the ball at address. Think of the Blackjack as an excellent alternative to the popular TaylorMade Spider EX, Ping Fetch or the Odyssey Ten putters and you really won’t go too far wrong.
PXG Battle Ready Collection One & Done Putter
RRP: £269
Toe hang with Double Bend shaft: 0° Face Balanced
Toe hang with Plumber’s Neck hosel: Mid
Toe hang with Heel Shaft hosel: Significant
Stock head weight: 360g Double Bend / 370g Heel Shafted / 380g Plumbers Neck / 405g Armlock
The One and Done has a modern MOI mallet sized head, and thanks to two alignment aids it’s a great option for golfers who like to see a golf ball width guide at address. A white disc on the crown and two parallel sightlines frame the ball really well at address, whilst also highlighting where putts should impact the face and showing the putters path beautifully.
A lightweight aluminium body and large heavy tungsten back weight create a very stable and forgiving mallet model. We like the heads straight edges which can really boost confidence for players who like to see putting in straight lines. Thanks to having no face insert expect a slightly firmer feel and feedback, which is great for year round golf in the UK.

PXG Battle Ready Collection Bat Wing Putter
RRP: £269
Toe hang with Double Bend shaft: 0° Face Balanced
Toe hang with Plumber’s Neck hosel: Mid
Toe hang with Heel Shaft hosel: Significant
Stock head weight: 360g Double Bend / 370g Heel Shafted / 380g Plumbers Neck / 405g Armlock
Fang putters are very popular in the modern game. And thanks to heavy tungsten toe and heel weights which are teamed with a lightweight aluminium body the Bat Attack is a very stable option.
The Bat Attacks fangs are a golf ball width apart which focuses attention brilliantly on the area of the face you want to be hitting putts on. The fangs also turn the Bat Attack into an excellent ball scoop.
We really like the heads simple clutter free straight lines, it’s an excellent choice for straighter strokes along with a double bend shaft. Remember you can tailor length (in ½” measurements) to your personal set-up and an additional weight kit will let you tinker with weight and balance until your hearts content.

PXG Battle Ready Collection Brandon, Mustang and Spitfire Putters
RRP: £269
Toe hang with Double Bend shaft: 0° Face Balanced
Toe hang with Plumber’s Neck hosel: Mid
Toe hang with Heel Shaft hosel: Significant
Stock head weight:
Brandon: 340g Double Bend / 350g Heel Shafted / 360g Plumbers Neck / 385g Armlock
Mustang: 350g Double Bend / 360g Heel Shafted / 370g Plumbers Neck / 395g Armlock
Spitfire: 360g Double Bend / 370g Heel Shafted / 380g Plumbers Neck
Blade putters regularly used to be seen as the pinnacle of the game, very much in the same way that forged irons are put on a pedestal and seen as the mark of a ‘player’. But times are changing and over the last decade 65% of tour pro’s have switched to using mallet and MOI models.
For those golfers who insist blade putters suit their eye PXG’s models are amongst the most stable and forgiving available thanks to the extensive use of tungsten weighting in their designs.
The Brandon is a classic toe and heel weighted blade and traditionally thanks to the plumbers neck hosel this style of putter came with mid-toe hang. But thanks to PXG’s three hosel choice it can now also be face balanced (with a double bend shaft) or have significant toe hang (when heel shafted).
With the shape of putters evolving quickly the Mustang with its flared toe and heel sections adds additional MOI and stability over a traditional blade putter like the Brandon. And for those who want the narrow body chassis of a classic blade putter but really want to push the boundaries of stability and forgiveness then the Spitfire with its extended wingtips is an excellent choice.
VERDICT: PXG Battle Ready Collection Mustang putter
The Mustang is no conventional blade putter. Ask fans of traditional toe and heel weighted blade putters why they use them and many will say they just love the classic lines and simple head shape, as well as the neatness of how a traditional toe and heel weighted putter looks sat behind the ball. If you’re the type of player who holds these beliefs then the Mustang is probably not for you.
The Mustang has an oversized head and it’s flared wing design is there to up forgiveness of what’s usually a stability challenged design. We see the Mustang fitting into the space for golfers who’ve been attracted to toe and heel weighted blade putters before but possibly didn’t get on quite so well with their less forgiving designs. Or golfers who are flat out looking for a forgiving blade style putter.
Remember with three hosel choices the Mustang can suit strong arc strokes just as much as it can be a solution for slight arc and straighter putting strokes. Not our favourite blade by any stretch of the imagination but there’s a real niche of golfers where this model will find its fans.
