Ping pickmeup mid mallet putter Review

Ping’s two Anser models performed well in the blades section of the Test, but the Scottsdale Pickemup has gone even better and won the top gong in the mid-mallets. If you haven’t come across this unique design before, it’s no surprise – there was certainly more of a buzz around the larger-headed Wolverine model in the Scottsdale range when it  was launched.

It certainly suits golfers who have a “straight- back-andthrough” putting stroke, and TG’s Senior Equipment Editor Jon was massively impressed. He thought the looks were a little ‘out there’, but the putter was incredibly easy to line up – the two wings at the back of the head helped to frame the ball too, which generally inspired confidence. Paul also made reference to the fact that not everyone would be convinced by the starship styling, but for him it wasn’t an issue. Pro James thought it was very forgiving and would suit golfers who struggled to align the ball to the target efficiently.

The only negative comment came from Dave, who thought the insert sound wasn’t great – that said though, the performance was good enough for him to overlook this minor issue; the putter scored heavily in every category. This is a putter that shows that if you go a little off the beaten track, there are some designs – regardless of looks – that can work for a wide range of golfers. This is a rare example of a putter that, despite looking a little wacky, inspires confidence at the same time. Shun it at your peril.
