One of the best-looking putter series on the market, providing a lovely feel off the face.

Not all that friendly on off-centre strikes so not ideal if you’ve got an inconsistent stroke.

What we say...

Mizuno’s foray into the world of putters with the MP series a few years ago was a great addition to that particular equipment category, not least because the wands offered sensational feel and great looks.

Now the Japanese giants have launched a new line of MP flatsticks called the A-Series – and we suspect these beautiful-looking offerings might prove to be even more popular.

There are three models in the range, each featuring a stunning black finish and distinctive white top edge which looks great at address.

As well as a traditional blade style (301), there is also a slightly larger blade (302) that will give confidence to those golfers seeking a traditional look but a solid construction.

The triumvirate is completed by a mid-mallet putter which features a two-line alignment system in contrast to the blade models that feature a solitary white line on the crown. Of the three, I preferred the traditional blade, but all of the new putters performed well.

Mizuno say the visual benefits of the bevelled top edge and white paint helps you to square the blade up, and I got that feeling myself.

The roll off the face was impressive, too, and there was certainly none of the counterproductive skidding which can lead to inconsistent results.

If there was a downside to these beauties, it would have to be that they really didn’t offer much in the forgiveness stakes – I hit a couple out of the toe (intentionally of course to see how it would perform!) and they got nowhere near the target on putts over 30 feet.

In short, if you have a consistent stroke that holds up well, these are definitely going to get your juices flowing.

The MP A-Series putters combine a lush black IP finish, with bevelled white top edge to make their classic shapes easier to align.

The top edge marking, parallel to the face, creates a stronger alignment aid on compact head shapes, than can be achieved with a traditional ‘ball to target’ marking.

Individually engineered masterpieces, the MP Series putters are designed to generate a solid but soft feel and purest of rolls. The MP Series are forged from mild carbon steel, then CNC milled to ensure exact alignment and a flawless profile at address.

The CNC milling process allows the face thickness to be tuned for the perfect feel. A consistent roll is enabled through a further milling to process to apply simple score lines to the face.

The MP A-Series also feature a new oversize Winn Grip to reduce hand action through impact.
