What we say...
Tech:
Cleveland say 80% of golfers don’t have their eyes directly over the ball when putting, which leads to some serious issues with alignment and not striking putts from the centre of the face. They reckon by raising the alignment aid to exactly half the size of a golf ball they’ve created the most accurate alignment aid ever.
Our verdict:
Centre shafted putters were on the up and up 2 years ago. Yet this year the trend seems to have slowed as there’s was a distinct lack of models for us to test. Our feeling hasn’t changed about them though, as we reckon they offer a fantastically simple way to putt, particularly if you like to see your putting stroke work in straight lines. Our test pro was the only tester to put up a protest over the Mezzo’s head shape but then proceeded to hole putt after putt with it, which has to say the Mezzo’s performance has the ability to win you over. Feel and feedback off the aluminium face is confidently firm and we felt it would be a good match for UK greens that weren’t at their hard summer baked fastest. Which bearing in mind our weather should be at least 11 1/2 months a year.
Bottom line:
If your putting could benefit from some simplification then you won’t find a simpler model to set up and aim than the Mezzo. Cleveland aren’t that well known yet for brilliant putter designs but they’ve got a new found enthusiasm to focus efforts on the short game. We reckon the 2135 range is a decent step down the road to convincing you their designs can do a serious job in your bag.
