What we say...
Tech:
Cleveland say that 80% of golfers don’t have their eyes directly over the ball when putting, which leads to some serious issues with alignment and not striking putts from the centre of the face. They reckon by raising the alignment aid to exactly half the size of a golf ball they’ve created the most accurate alignment aid ever.
Our verdict:
Crescent shaped heads are nothing new when it comes to putters, they’ve been around for years, some golfers still refer to them as “branding irons” because they resemble the implements used for branding cattle. There’s no faulting the Cero’s simplicity it really is just a black head and simple single alignment line right inline with the centre of the bal. We’d love to say the 2135’s alignment tech helped us hole more putts but it’s just not provable. Two of our three testers felt the Cero’s shaft was quite upright which really encouraged getting a high left wrist which some golfers will love. The head’s face balanced so is well suited to a straight back and through stroke and all testers thought the smaller grip gave a good overall feel and control of the putter.
Bottom line:
We’ve included one of Cleveland’s 2135 range within our top ten MOI putters for 2017 but unfortunately it’s not the Cero. Admittedly it’s a difficult choice between the two models (Elevado and Cero) but the reason we plumped for the Elevado is we felt its straighter edges and fanged design not only helped us set up consistently squarer to the target but we reckon it will do exactly the same for other golfers too.
